Everton have taken all three points from an open and entertaining Premier League game today. The hosts took the lead late in the first half when Marouane Fellaini headed home from Seamus Coleman's cross, but up until that point Reading had looked more than equal. However, the second half saw two more goals for Everton, first Steven Pienaar lashing home from outside the box before Kevin Mirallas slotted home after good work form Pienaar. Reading grabbed a late consolation through Hal Robson-Kanu but it wasn't enough to spark a revival for the visitors. This victory will be sweet for David Moyes, although somewhat marred by an early injury to Phil Jagielka, whilst Reading are now deep in trouble and lost one of their own key men today in the form of Jimmy Kebe. Everton's march for Europe moves on, whilst Reading lose another round in the battle for survival. Everton 3 - 1 Reading.
The referee ends the game and Everton have won this game by three goals to one.
Three minutes are signalled.
Nikica Jelavic looks a shadow of the player he was last season. Kevin Mirallas works well down the left and plays the ball to the feet of Jelavic, but the striker gets in a tangle and Reading clear.
Time is running out and despite that goal, Everton still look comfortable. A welcome win for them.
Is it too late for Reading? The Royals play some neat football down the left flank and Ian Harte swings in a lovely cross. Hal Robson-Kanu rises to nod home without any Everton challenge, and Reading have one back. Robson-Kanu wants the ball quickly and Mucha won't give it to him, leading to some handbags, but it sorts itself quickly. Everton 3 - 1 Reading.
READING HAVE ONE BACK!!
Thomas Hitzlsperger takes the place of the highly impressive Steven Pienaar.
The visitors have got all of the possession at the moment, but Everton have men back in numbers and Reading cannot find a way through.
QPR have just taken the lead against Southampton. If they can pick up three points this afternoon, then Reading are in real trouble.
The pace of the game has slowed and Everton seem content to hold the ball, playing it amongst themselves in the middle of the park. They know they have the points in the bag.
Reading still want to get at least a goal here if they can. With the way the Premier League is this season, relegation could come down to goal difference.
Leon Osman leaves the field, with Victor Anichebe coming on to add yet more firepower to the Everton ranks. Nick Blackman takes the place of Noel Hunt.
They're all having a go now. Kevin Mirallas plays the ball infield to Darron Gibson who takes one step forward before lashing a low, 30-yard drive at goal. The diving Stuart Taylor is beaten but the ball whistles past the post.
Seamus Coleman sweeps in another lovely cross from the right and Nikica Jelavic looks all set to nod it home at the far post, only for Stephen Kelly to dive in the way to block the ball.
Reading have over 20 minutes in this tie to endure, but are still giving it a go. The Royals have made some spectacular late comebacks this season, but you have to feel that this would be a bridge too far.
This is it now. Reading give the ball away in the middle of the park and Steven Pienaar pounces on it, playing it through to the onrushing Kevin Mirallas. The winger outpaces Stephen Kelly and slots a shot low past Stuart Taylor at the near post. Everton 3 - 0 Reading.
GAME, SET AND MATCH TO EVERTON!
Hal Robson-Kanu does well to evade two challenges on the right wing, but he lets himself down with his shot. He lines it up to really test Jan Mucha but gets no power whatsoever behind the effort and Mucha collects with ease.
Hang on, here's some controversy. John Heitinga goes down after clashing with Noel Hunt but Reading play on. Adam Le Fondre sends in a cross which appears to strike the arm of Sylvain Distin, before going out for a corner. Both sets of players surround the referee, Everton not happy that play carried on after Heitinga's injury and Reading asking for a penalty.
Everton really have turned it on here. Kevin Mirallas has all the time in the world inside the Reading box to take not one, but two touches before firing off a low shot. The Everton fans are already celebrating only to see the ball roll inches past the post.
Everton have a second, and it could be game over here. Reading are exposed on the counter and Marouane Fellaini spreads the ball to Steven Pienaar on the right flank. The South African comes forward, with the Reading defence backing off, and curls a superb shot into the top corner from outside the box. Everton 2 - 0 Reading.
EVERTON HAVE A SECOND!!!!
Reading need to sort out how they take care of Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian is allowed to rise, unhindered, and head at goal. Unfortunately for him it sails over.
The Reading midfield need to change their tune here. They insist on playing balls over the top for Hunt and le Fondre to run on two, but the Everton defence have them covered all day long. All it does is set up chances for the Toffees to counter-attack.
Everton should really have another here. The Reading defence crumble as the hosts come forward and the trio of Nikica Jelavic, Kevin Mirallas and Marouane Fellaini all have attempts at goal which are blocked. Fellaini goes down and appeals for the penalty but once again the referee says no.
Leighton Baines does superbly to hold off Adam Le Fondre as the striker looks to run on to a long ball. Nowhere near a foul, but enough strength to keep the striker away from the ball.
Noel Hunt flicks the ball on and Adam Le Fondre races through on goal, only to be bundled over by a combination of Jan Mucha and John Heitinga. The Reading fans appeal but the referee says no.
The tackles are beginning to fly in here and they aren't soft. With the two early injuries in this game, you would hope the players would think twice before diving in. Obviously not.
Reading need to switch on here. Ian Harte swings in a corner, Noel Hunt heads it down and it bounces off the back of Alex Pearce's legs before rolling out of play. The Reading centre-back wasn't even aware of that. What a waste.
Reading have come out here looking to grab an early goal to force their way back into this tie. Everton are holding firm.
Reading, in their all-yellow strip, start the second period. No changes for either side during the break.
Both sides have played their part in an entertaining half of football, but the number of chances was relatively low. Both sides lost a player early on, with Phil Jagielka and Jimmy Kebe going off with knocks, and for a time this affected the flow of the game. The home side took the lead when Marouane Fellaini powered home a cross from Seamus Coleman, and that's how the half ended. Here's hoping for more.
The referee ends the half, with Everton one goal to the good.
What a hit from Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian, clearly buoyed by his goal, tries a chip from near the corner flag and only a fingertip save from Stuart Taylor keeps the ball out.
Three minutes are signalled as added time.
Seamus Coleman is shown a yellow card for scything down McAnuff.
Everton have the lead here, and Reading are in part the makers of their own downfall. Seamus Coleman and Jobi McAnuff have had their own private ball this afternoon but the Everton man comes off better this time, beating his man all ends up before sending a lovely cross into the box. Marouane Fellaini has a lot to do but manages to squeeze his header over Stuart Taylor but under the bar, leading to a roar from the crowd. Everton 1 - 0 Reading.
EVERTON TAKE THE LEAD!!!!
Reading press forward, with the Everton players backing off them, but they cannot find a way through. John Heitinga and Sylvain Distin are very good at the last-ditch side of defending.
Marouane Fellaini comes in slightly late to nick the ball off the toes of Noel Hunt, and the Reading man goes down in a heap. It looks like nothing, but Hunt stays down and Fellaini is warned by the referee.
Everton are having all of their success down the left flank, where Kevin Mirallas and Leighton Baines are cutting through the Reading defence with ease. Mirallas did start on the right but was having no joy, and so switched over. It seems to be a good choice.
Everton are certainly the side on the attack here. Steven Pienaar thinks he has won a corner but it is given as a goal kick, which the South African does not react well to.
Nikica Jelavic is woefully short of confidence and he shows it here. The Croatian runs on to a ball over the top, takes a touch, and fires it straight at Stuart Taylor. What a waste.
Everton break down the left and Leighton Baines sends in a low cross for Steven Pienaar. The South African powers a shot goalwards but Adrian Mariappa throws himself at it to clear.
Marouane Fellaini is berated by his team-mates and the fans for giving the ball away cheaply in midfield. The big Belgian, so often a key player for the Toffees, has looked off the pace today.
The 'keepers are both booting the ball up the pitch and it isn't making for exciting, free-flowing football. Let's hope for a change in tactics.
Both 'keepers are very short of Premier League action, but have looked safe enough when called upon so far. We all know that conditioning is a big part of being a footballer, so can they both keep it up for the full 90 minutes?
The away side are certainly the ones causing more problems here. It seems as if the loss of Phil Jagielka has affected Everton, as they seem to give away a foul every time Reading come forward.
Reading should be ahead here. Ian Harte swings in a corner and it falls to Adam Le Fondre, but the striker's effort cannons off the underside of the bar and Everton are able to clear. A let-off for Everton there.
Hal Robson-Kanu comes on for Jimmy Kebe in a like-for-like swap.
Reading are the team on the attack now and Leighton Baines has to be very aware of his surroundings to shepherd the ball out of play. It seems as if Jimmy Kebe will also be leaving the action.
Jimmy Kebe is down in the Everton penalty area and it doesn't look good for the Reading winger. He is clutching his groin and it seems as if his afternoon is over as well.
Everton attack but Reading defend well and set up a counter of their own. Adam Le Fondre is dragged down by Darron Gibson and Reading get the free kick, but if that had been further up the field then Gibson could have been in real trouble.
This game is being played at a good pace, with both sides pressing forward and giving it a go. You have to feel a goal is coming soon, but you couldn't predict which way it'll go.
Adam Le Fondre wins a free kick just outside the box and Ian Harte curls it over the wall, but Jan Mucha catches with ease. Reading will need to do more than that to beat this stand-in 'keeper.
The fans haven't quite got into this one yet, only cheering when Everton press forward. The travelling Reading fans need to urge their team forward to get something here.
That injury to Jagielka is a real blow to Everton. They are known for having a paper-thin squad and he is one of their key men. With Darron Gibson needing surgery and Phil Neville unable to play as many matches anymore, David Moyes needs every body that he can get his hands on.
Phil Jagielka is down again and does have to come off, with John Heitinga replacing him. A blow for Everton. It is also worth noting that Adam Le Fondre picked up a caution for that tackle.
Phil Jagielka seems ok to continue and the hosts come forward again, with Stephen Kelly forced into a last-minute tackle to deny Steven Pienaar.
Phil Jagielka and Adam Le Fondre go for the same ball, but the Everton defender stays down holding his ankle. The medical staff are on, and it seems that Jagielka may have to come off.
Everton have a very early chance here. The hosts move forward down the left and Leon Osman dinks a ball over the top, only for Nikica Jelavic to get it all wrong and send his header well wide.
Everton start the game, kicking from right to left.
Everton head into this tie knowing only a win will do, having won only one of their previous six. They are, however, playing a team with the joint-worst defensive record in the division, so they can be sure of a goal! Everton are undefeated in 16 of their 17 home games this season, and will be hoping to get payback from earlier this season, where they lost 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium.
Reading make a goalkeeping change of their own, with regular reserve Stuart Taylor starting with both Adam Federici and Alex McCarthy out injured. Alex Pearce comes in at centre back with Sean Morrison dropping out, whilst Pavel Pogrebnyak is suspended. This means a change of shape for Reading, with Jem Karacan also dropping to the bench, and a front two of Adam Le Fondre and Noel Hunt coming in.
Possibly the biggest news for Everton is that goalkeeper Tim Howard misses out, meaning that Jan Mucha earns a league start. Their only other change is that Phil Neville misses out, with Marouane Fellaini coming into the starting lineup and Seamus Coleman dropping back.
Anthony Taylor is the man in the middle for this tie. The Manchester-based referee has handed out 64 yellow cards and six red in his 27 games this season, making him one of the more lenient top-flight officials. He has, however, issued red cards in both of the matches in which he has refereed Everton this season - one to Nathan Dyer in their 3-0 win over Swansea, and controversially one each to Darron Gibson and Carlton Cole in their 2-1 win over West Ham. He has also taken charge of Reading twice, with their 5-2 league loss to Arsenal and their 3-0 FA Cup victory over Crawley.
Hello and welcome to this afternoon's game at Goodison Park. With Everton fighting for a place in Europe and Reading fighting for their Premier League survival, both sides will be keen for all three points today. Stay with us for team news, referee info and facts & stats.
