Start Half

An Andy Carroll goal on his return to the side was enough to secure victory for West Ham and end Swansea's seven game unbeaten Premier League run. The hosts saw less of the ball, but had the majority of the chances. Both Nolan and Vaz Te were denied by the impressive Gerhard Tremmel. Swansea improved in the second half, but Jussi Jaaskelainen was largely untroubled. It was a routine set-piece that separated the sides, with Mark Noble picking out Andy Carroll and the striker made no mistake from close range with his header. Sam Allardyce will be delighted, but Michael Laudrup will be annoyed to have conceded from a corner. The hosts held on to claim three important points as they look to push back up the Premier League table.
Lee Probert blows his whistle and West Ham have held on for a much needed victory. It's finished West Ham 1-0 Swansea.
Sam Allardyce uses up some time by bringing on Emanuel Pogatetz for Mohamed Diame. Andy Carroll almost grabs a second, but can't shake off Chico and the visitors clear.
Four added minutes announced by the fourth official. Swansea have the ball and Dyer crosses into the penalty area. Chico rises above Tomkins, but can't get his header on target.
The hosts almost grab a second. Joe Cole is picked out by Ricardo Vaz Te, but he can't get his shot on target and Swansea can clear. Sam Allardyce is shouting encouragement to his side, as they look to hold onto their lead.
The hosts are beginning to sit deep in their own half, but Swansea are struggling to play their way through. Jonathan De Guzman's cross is easily cleared by Mark Noble, but Swansea immediately win the ball back and can look to press forward once more.
Swansea are now pressing forward for the equaliser. Ben Davies has time and space, but his inswinging shot is saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
West Ham have finally taken the lead and it's ANDY CARROLL with his second goal of the season. Mark Noble plays a perfect cross into the penalty area and Carroll makes no mistake in heading the ball past Gerhard Tremmel. Sam Allardyce is delighted and it's West Ham 1-0 Swansea.
Michael Laudrup reacts to the West Ham pressure and replaces Wayne Routledge with Nathan Dyer.
West Ham have had chances to take the lead, and another one is squandered by Andy Carroll. The striker finds space in the penalty area, but his shot lacks power and is saved by the legs of Gerhard Tremmel. The hosts have cranked up the pressure, but have yet to find the breakthrough.
The game is opening up and it's the hosts who almost take the lead. Mohamed Diame powers forward and hits a low drive from range that drifts just wide of the post. Both managers are restless on the touchline, as they feel one goal could settle this.
Swansea are looking more dangerous since the introduction of Luke Moore, as the change has allowed Michu to find more space. The Spanish striker meets a Pablo Hernandez cross, but he can't find placement or power and Jussi Jaaskelainen saves.
Matthew Jarvis is replaced by Joe Cole, as Sam Allardyce is looking to add extra creativity in an effort to break the deadlock.
First change for Swansea and it is Leon Britton who has to be taken off. Luke Moore is brought on to replace him and give Michu some support up front.
It's taken nearly an hour for Michu to get into the game, but the forward almost breaks the deadlock. Wayne Routledge plays the ball into the penalty area, and Michu almost pokes it into the back of net. Fortunately for West Ham, James Tomkins intercepts and the visitors have a corner.
Big moment for Andy Carroll who should open the scoring. Matthew Jarvis plays a low cross into the England international's path, but he can't keep his shot down and blasts it over the bar.
Leon Britton appears to have twisted his ankle and is receiving treatment on the touchline. The midfielder is wanting to get back onto the pitch, but Michael Laudrup might be forced into an early change.
First shot on target of the second half falls to the hosts. Matthew Taylor plays a long ball forward, and Ricardo Vaz Te brings it down and hits a low drive that's saved by Gerhard Tremmel.
West Ham get the second half underway.
Lee Probert blows his whistle for half time, and it's goalless at the break. Swansea have had the majority of the ball, but the hosts have had most of the chances, with Gerhard Tremmel twice denying Nolan and then preventing Ricardo Vaz Te from scoring with a superb save. It's West Ham Utd 0-0 Swansea City.
The game has livened up and West Ham almost break through. Ricardo Vaz Te forces Gerhard Tremmel to knock the ball behind for a corner, but the delivery from Mark Noble is poor and Swansea are able to clear.
The visitors are looking to press forward and win a corner. Jonathan De Guzman plays it into the box, but Taylor is able to clear. The ball falls to Pablo Hernandez, but he can't pick out Ashley Williams and the defender fouls Joey O'Brien for a free kick.
The hosts have taken note of the growing anxiety and almost take the lead. Andy Carroll plays a cross along the ground into the path of Kevin Nolan, and his crisp effort is tipped away by Gerhard Tremmel.
The home fans are beginning to voice their frustration, as Swansea are keeping the ball and the hosts can't regain possession. Sam Allardyce is on the touchline issuing instructions, and he will be wary that his side need to have more creativity in front of goal.
The hosts almost make their physical advantage count. Kevin Nolan plays a corner into the box and James Tomkins gets above the Swansea defenders. Unfortunately he can't place his header past Gerhard Tremmel and the goalkeeper comfortably saves.
First shot in anger from the visitors. Pablo Hernandez sees his cross blocked by Reid, and the winger decides to try a shot at goal. His effort is again blocked, this time by Tomkins and the hosts clear upfield.
There's a better tempo from the hosts. A quick goal kick from Jussi Jaaskelainen finds Andy Carroll on the edge of the penalty area. The striker turns and shoots, but Ashley Williams is able to block the shot and Swansea clear.
Big chance for West Ham. Joey O'Brien has space on the flank to cross into the penalty area and Nolan has time to bring the ball down and hit a low shot on target. Gerhard Tremmel is equal to the shot and parries the ball clear.
The hosts finally get the ball and almost take the lead. Mohamed Diame tries an effort from range, and Gerhard Tremmel can only parry it clear. Fortunately for the visitors the goalkeeper grabs the ball at the second attempt and the chance is gone.
Michael Laudrup will be pleased with his side in the opening stages. They have quietened the crowd with some possession football and West Ham are struggling to get a foothold going forward. The visitors have yet to have any shots at goal, which would be Laudrup's only criticism.
A poor tackle from Ricardo Vaz Te on Wayne Routledge sees the West Ham striker receive a yellow card from Lee Probert. There are few complaints from the other players and Swansea have a free kick in their own half.
The hosts are looking lively in the early stages. Andy Carroll brings the ball down and sets up Nolan, who sees his shot blocked by Chico for a corner. Mark Noble whips a cross into the area, but Mohamed Diame can't control his shot and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
Swansea get the game underway at a noisy Upton Park.
Three changes as well for the visitors. Angel Rangel, Wayne Routledge and Sung-Yueng Ki come into the side. Nathan Dyer, Itay Shechter and Dwight Tiendalli are the players who have to settle for a place amongst the substitutes.
Three changes for the hosts. Andy Carroll makes his return to the starting eleven, replacing Marouane Chamakh. Matthew Taylor and Ricardo Vaz Te also start, with Guy Demel and Joe Cole the men who miss out.
West Ham might have been busy in the transfer window, but the return of Andy Carroll from injury could trigger the upturn in fortune the home fans crave. The striker has been well received at Upton Park, but one goal in his loan spell is a poor return and he will be hoping to add to that should he start today. Ben Davies has become one of the first names on the team sheet for Swansea, and the youngster will need to be resolute against a very powerful West Ham side as the Swans look to keep up their unbeaten run.
Michael Laudrup has taken Swansea to new heights this season, a top half place and a cup final represents a fantastic start to his first managerial role in the Premier League. The visitors are unbeaten in their last seven games and have conceded the least amount of goals away from home. Danny Graham has been sold, and it remains to be seen how big of a miss he will be over the coming months.
Sam Allardyce talked up West Ham's chances of Europe earlier this season, but one win in nine games has seen the club slip into the bottom half of the table. The manager has looked to rectify that by bringing in several new faces during the transfer window, but he will need his new signings to start performing immediately if they are to stop themselves being dragged into the relegation scrap.
Lee Probert takes charge at Upton Park for only the second time this season, his last outing saw the hosts defeated by Liverpool. Swansea have won all three games this season when Probert has been in charge, including two in their Capital One Cup adventure. They will be hoping that pattern continues today.
A big game at Upton Park, as West Ham United look to stop their slide down the Premier League table against a Swansea side looking to cement their place in the top half. The hosts were beaten midweek by Fulham, whilst Swansea impressed in a tough trip to Sunderland. Both sides will feel they can claim the three points this afternoon, but West Ham fans will be wary of the opposition, having been well beaten by the visitors in their last encounter in August.
