BAINES BRACE WINS IT

Despite a poor second half performance Everton managed to see out the game thanks to two goals by Leighton Baines. The left-back's opening goal was a beauty as he surged forward and crashed a shot past Ben Foster. Baines grabbed his second moments before the break from the penalty spot following a foul by substitute Claudio Yacob on the lively Victor Anichebe. A different Everton emerge from half time and they allowed West Brom too much time on the ball. However, the home side would have seen the game out with some ease had it not been for the mistake by John Heitinga, which let in Shane Long. The goal made Everton nervous, but they just managed to hang on.

NEVILLE UNHAPPY

Phil Neville is really not happy with Jonas Olsson. The West Brom defender dumped Marouane Fellaini on the floor and the Everton captain is incensed.

POOR PASS

Everton just need to keep the ball and see the game out, but John Heitinga has other ideas and tries to pick Steven Pienaar with a long ball. The defender has the beating of the Everton midfielder and West Brom can attack.

MOYES LOOKING ANGRY

The Everton manager has had a permanent scowl on his face since the West Brom goal. Whatever the result, you get the feeling he is going to give his team a good dressing down for this second half performance.

EVERTON SUBSTITUTION

Victor Anichebe is replaced by Nikica Jelavic.

SO CLOSE

Marouane Fellaini picks out Steven Pienaar, who hits the post. The ball falls nicely for Leon Osman and he sidefoots over the bar from four yards. What a miss.

Steven Pienaar sucks Graham Dorrans into a challenge and the midfielder goes through the South African. The referee books the West Brom midfielder.

Steve Clarke has smelt blood and is bringing a third striker on. Markus Rosenberg replaces Jerome Thomas.

LUKAKU LIVELY

Suddenly the West Brom striker has come to life and John Heitinga cannot live with him. Romelu Lukaku is looking mostly likely to equalise for West Brom.

GREAT CROSS

Leighton Baines gets forward and delivers a brilliant curling ball but Jonas Olsson stretches to clear before the cross reaches the waiting Marouane Fellaini.

GREAT SAVE

A great counter from Everton. Phil Neville steers a good cross into the box and the ball rebounds into the path of Leon Osman, who appears to have an open goal until Ben Foster claws away.

OFF THE BAR

Everton and their cross bar are rattling. The home side looked home and dry a few moments ago, but now they are on the rack. Graham Dorrans hits a great free kick that beats Tim Howard, but smashes the bar and rebounds out.

EVERTON SUBSTITUTION

Darron Gibson makes his return from injury in place of Kevin Mirallas.

GOOAALL!!

Romelu Lukaku escapes the Everton defence and takes the ball round Tim Howard. The striker's shot is straight at John Heitinga, who opts to control rather than smash it clear and it allows Shane Long to nick in to score.

James Morrison is replaced by Shane Long as West Brom move to a 4-4-2 formation.

POOR TACKLE

Claudio Yacob goes in too hard and tries to plead his innocence, but he took Steven Pienaar rather than the ball. The West Brom midfielder is shown a yellow card.

WEST BROM CORNER

Everton have let their tempo drop and the away side are starting to press. However, Phil Jagielka does well to head out a corner.

WEST BROM POSSESSION

It's a good spell for the away side as they start knocking the ball about. Everton are forced to retreat, but manage to scramble the ball away. That is the best spell of football for West Brom.

GOOD PLAY

Victor Anichebe chases a ball into the channel, holds off the defender and brings Steven Pienaar into the game. The striker has put in a good performance today.

WEST BROM CHANCE

The away side break up an Everton attack and Jerome Thomas slips in Romelu Lukaku, but the striker sends his shot well over.

BAINES BRACE SEES BLUES ON TOP

Everton find themselves with a two-goal lead without really hitting top gear. West Brom set out to frustrate the home side by getting men behind the ball and seemed to be getting some success until Leighton Baines surged forward to hit a great shot past Ben Foster. The home side took confidence from the goal and pressed West Brom back, who bizarrely continued to sit back. Just before half time, George Thorne went down with an injury and was replaced by Claudio Yacob. The substitute put in a rusty challenge on Victor Anichebe and the referee gave a penalty that Baines smashed into the net.

He doesn`t miss those does he. Leighton Baines sends Ben Foster the wrong way with a well struck penalty.

PENALTY

A clever flick from Steven Pienaar sends Victor Anichebe into the box. Claudio Yacob brings the striker down and the referee points to the spot.

THORNE DOWN

West Brom midfielder George Thorne went down after a challenge by Leon Osman and appears to have twisted his knee. The youngster is carried off to warm applause.

MIRALLAS STRUGGLING

Kevin Mirallas was impressive in Everton's start to the season, but since then his season has been interrupted by injury and the winger is looking someway off match sharpness.

WEST BROM QUIET

It has been an odd performance from the away side. Steve Clarke's team have shown little ambition and seem happy to sit back. Not even the Everton goal has roused them from a footballing slumber.

GOOD DEFENDING

Steven Pienaar and Leighton Baines combine well. The left back sends a good ball into the box, but Gareth McAuley gets there and heads out for a corner.

LUKAKU STRUGGLING

Romelu Lukaku is not having the best of games. The striker has been crowded out when in possession and has been caught offside a number of times.

Great play from Everton. Leighton Baines carries the ball out of defence and plays the ball into midfield. The left back continues his run and is picked out by Leon Osman. Baines takes the ball in his stride and smashes a shot past Ben Foster.

GOOD TACKLE

Steven Pienaar finds Marouane Fellaini in an advanced position, but West Brom get back and win the ball from the big man.

EVERTON ON TOP

The home side are now starting to press West Brom back. Romelu Lukaku is having to come deep and it is playing in to the Toffees' hands as they are able to crowd the striker out. However, Everton continue to struggle for fluency in the final third.

OFF THE POST

Marouane Fellaini pops up in the box and controls the ball, before turning to hit a shot that beats Ben Foster. However, the midfielder holds his head as he hits the outside of the post.

JUST WIDE

Everton nearly get very lucky as Victor Anichebe slides in to a tackle and the ball ricochets towards goal. Ben Foster has to scramble back and breathes a sigh of relief as the deflection drifts wide.

TENSE MATCH

Neither of these sides are taking any risks and the game is suffering. Everton are seeing a lot of the ball, but are faced with well-drilled West Brom defence and the home side don't have any willing runners from midfield.

BIG CHANCE

Jerome Thomas gets in behind Phil Jagielka and crosses for Romelu Lukaku. The big striker gets to the ball, but can't direct his header.

POOR PASS

Initially Victor Anichebe does well to hold off the challenges from West Brom defenders, but when he tries to pick out Kevin Mirallas, he plays the ball way too far in front of the forward and the it goes out of play.

EVERTON FORMATION

There was some speculation before kick off that John Heitinga may be playing in midfield, but I can confirm that it is Phil Neville in midfield with Phil Jagielka at right back. Kevin Mirallas has tucked in just behind Victor Anichebe.

Romelu Lukaku is Steve Clarke's choice to lead the line, but there is no room in the squad for the unsettled Peter Odemwingie. Jerome Thomas comes into the team following an impressive loan spell.

EVERTON TEAM NEWS

The big news for Everton is that Nikica Jelavic has been dropped, so Victor Anichebe leads the line. Phil Jagielka will be at right back as both Tony Hibbert and Seamus Coleman are injured. However, Kevin Mirallas has recovered from a hamstring problem and starts.

BAGGIES STRUGGLING FOR FORM

Steve Clarke is facing his first real crisis as West Brom manager as they have not won in any of their games this month and Peter Odemwingie continues to ruffle feathers with his requests for a move. The manager needs to find a way to galvanise his troops as they face a tough game at Goodison Park.

EVERTON STRIKER UNDER PRESSURE

Missed opportunities continue to haunt Everton as they loiter in fifth as they struggle to carve out the victories their play has deserved. The Toffees have drawn eleven games this season as they lack a cutting edge with Nikica Jelavic suffering a severe goal drought.

TIGHT AFFAIR AHEAD

Everton have a chance to put pressure on the top four with a home game against out of form West Brom. It wasn`t long ago that the Baggies were pushing for a European spot, but with just two wins in their last ten Premier League games they have nosedived down the table and now find themselves in ninth. The Toffees aren`t exactly in top form themselves as they have suffered goalless draws in their last two Premier League games against Swansea and Southampton. West Brom will hope to add to that frustration this evening.
