Start Half

If you tuned into this game at the 80th minute, you would have said that Reading had no chance of winning this tie. But football's a funny old game, and the Royals have come away with a result that is barely deserved. West Brom were by far the better team for the majority of the game, with Romelu Lukaku and James Morrison causing all kinds of chaos, the former opening the scoring following a flick from the latter. West Brom cruised through the first half and into the second, where Lukaku scored again, also from a Morrison set up. The Baggies fans were jubliant and Reading looked doomed, until Jimmy Kebe headed home in the 82nd minute. It seemed like a lucky consolation for Reading, but 5 minutes later Jonas Olsson, impressive all afternoon, dragged down Jimmy Kebe and Adam Le Fondre slotted home his third penalty of the season. The Reading fans could sense the most unlikely of turnarounds and their wishes were granted moments later, when Ian Harte's free kick was poked on by Alex Pearce and Pavel Pogrebnyak showed great composure to finish over Ben Foster. Absolutely deflating for the Baggies, but wonderful for the Royals. A word of warning for Brian McDermott's side - they cannot get through the rest of the season on heart and belief alone, but for now they should enjoy the victory. Reading 3 - 2 West Brom.
The referee blows the whistle, and somehow Reading have won this game!
Four minutes are given as additional time.
This is incredible. Reading have looked awful at some points this season but somehow find themselves ahead. Ian Harte swings in a free kick from almost the half-way line, Alex Pearce knocks it on, and Pavel Pogrebnyak lifts it over Ben Foster for Reading's third goal. The Russian is booked for removing his shirt, but he won't care. Reading 3 - 2 West Brom.
READING TAKE THE LEAD!!!!!
Reading haven't deserved this, but they've got it. Adam Le Fondre has to wait an age to take the penalty but when he does, he calmly sends Foster the wrong way and slots the ball into the bottom corner.
ADAM LE FONDRE SCORES THE PENALTY!!!
THE ROYALS HAVE A WAY BACK INTO THIS! Jonas Olsson brings down Jimmy Kebe and Mr Friend points to the spot.
Reading are really trying hard here. Garath McCleary jinks into the box and plays the ball across to Jimmy Kebe, who lays it off to Danny Guthrie. His shot is curling but Ben Foster collects. Is there still time for Reading?
A glimmer of hope for Reading. Pavel Pogrebnyak holds the ball up well and feeds it back to Garath McCleary on the left, who swings in a cross. Adam Le Fondre knocks it on and Jimmy Kebe powers home with a diving header. Liam Ridgewell had no idea he was there. Reading 1 - 2 West Brom.
READING GET ONE BACK!!!
Markus Rosenberg takes the place of Graeme Dorrans.
Ian Harte does well to clear the ball off the line when a Graeme Dorrans volley comes in from a corner.
James Morrison and Romelu Lukaku have been nothing short of outstanding this afternoon. Both men have been almost unplayable and Reading have not been able to cope.
Reading can't catch a break here. Garath McCleary swings in a cross from the left, Jimmy Kebe volleys it, and Pavel Pogrebnyak gets in the way. Seconds later Danny Guthrie tries a long-range drive, only for Ben Foster to gather with ease.
All of the fight has gone out of Reading since that second goal. The Royals improved after the break, but have still looked nowhere near as good as West Brom, and an equaliser would have been very unfortunate on the Baggies had Reading got one.
West Brom have been the better side all game and now have another goal to show for it. Reading waste another corner and James Morrison picks up the ball, surging forward. He picks out Romelu Lukaku on the right and the big striker only has one thing on his mind. He cuts inside Adrian Mariappa and curls a low left-footed shot past Adam Federici at his near post. Reading 0 - 2 West Brom.
WEST BROM GET A SECOND!!!
How many times have I said this today? James Morrison sets up an easy chance for Romelu Lukaku with a great cross, only for the striker's effort to cannon back off the woodwork.
Reading win three corners in quick succession, but they come to nothing. However, signs of encouragement from the home side.
Adam Le Fondre comes on to the field in the place of Jem Karacan. Six goals in 10 games makes you wonder why Le Fondre isn't starting.
Adam Le Fondre is stripping off for the hosts, something which draws huge cheers from the Reading faithful.
West Brom immediately hit back on the counter. Romelu Lukaku runs at the defence and plays it to Morrison on the left. The midfielder holds up the ball for the overlapping George Thorne, whose shot rolls wide of Adam Federici's left post.
Pavel Pogrebnyak finally gets something out of the West Brom defence. The big Russian targets Billy Jones, already on a booking, and races past him into the area. He gets almost to the goal-line and pokes it towards goal, only for Jonas Olsson to clear off the line.
Brian McDermott is deep in discussion with Nigel Gibbs, his assistant, regarding how to change things. And Reading do need to change something, urgently.
West Brom have a great chance of their own. James Morrison busts a lung to chase down a ball in the left channel, before sending in a pin-point cross aimed at Lukaku. The big striker gets above Adrian Mariappa and powers a header at goal, only to see it bounce back off the post.
All six foot four of Jonas Olsson goes down in a heap following a collision with Pavel Pogrebnyak. He needs a minute, but he should be ok.
Garath McCleary, hang your head. Jimmy Kebe finally sends in a great cross from the right and Pavel Pogrebnyak gets there before Ben Foster, knocking the ball across to McCleary. All he has to do is power it home, but he sidefoots it, allowing Billy Jones to get back and clear off the line. An awful miss.
As has happened so often this afternoon, a cross comes in from a Reading player, but doesn't beat the first defender. Reading really need to come up with a different plan otherwise they will sink without trace.
Garath McCleary picks up the ball in his own left back position, before running the length of the pitch. Just as he looks to cut into the West Brom box, George Thorne comes across to rob him of the ball.
Romelu Lukaku moves far too early to collect a ball from James Morrison. He slots it home, but is rightly ruled offside.
Garath McCleary has come on in the place of Daniel Carrico, with Jobi McAnuff moving up to be a second striker.
Reading get the half underway.
West Brom go into the interval only one goal to the good, but knowing that they are comfortably in charge of this tie. Reading have offered nothing and seem to only be playing to Pavel Pogrebnyak, who is easily being handled by Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson. The Baggies went ahead when Romelu Lukaku knocked a long ball down to James Morrison, who squirmed through the Reading defence and played it back to the Belgian to slot home. Reading have not looked like getting back into this, whilst West Brom have been unlucky to not go further ahead.
The referee ends the half. Reading 0 - 1 West Brom.
One minute is signalled as added time.
West Brom are coming forward once again, looking to grab a second goal to cement their lead just before the interval.
West Brom are content to let Reading send in crosses and win corners, because they know that they are better in the air. The Royals have offered no aerial threat.
Romelu Lukaku sends in a cross from the left and Chris Gunter has to make a good diving header to clear the ball.
West Brom look capable of scoring every time they go forward. Unlike their visitors, Reading's defence looks relieved every time they clear the ball. Not what the Reading fans want to see.
Billy Jones is shown the yellow card for consistent fouling on Jimmy Kebe.
Pavel Pogrebnyak is penalised for a foul on Jonas Olsson. The Russian striker isn't happy, and has a few words with the assistant referee who flagged for the incident.
Reading's new man Daniel Carrico has looked uncertain so far on his debut. He was easily outmuscled by Romelu Lukaku for the goal, but has put together some probing passes as the half has gone on. A good signing, but not the man to fire Reading to safety, so the fans say.
Reading really are offering nothing here. It isn't difficult to see why they are in so much trouble, as they have no other attacking options than Pavel Pogrebnyak, who is being easily handled by the West Brom defence.
Reading are not showing any signs of threatening West Brom, and the visitors look more than comfortable. The home fans want more from their team.
You can't say that West Brom didn't deserve that goal. The visitors had done the same move moments before, only for Lukaku to be called offside, and so it was no suprise to see them try it again.
West Brom do it again. A long ball comes from Liam Ridgewell at the back to Romelu Lukaku, who knocks it into the path of James Morrison. The Scotsman jinks his way through several players before cutting it back for Lukaku, who has a simple tap-in. Reading 0 - 1 West Brom.
WEST BROM TAKE THE LEAD!!!
West Brom press once again here. The Baggies break from a Reading corner and Jerome Thomas sends in a cross from the right, only for Adam Federici to superbly parry away James Morrison's effort.
And West Brom are so close to going ahead. James Morrison picks the ball up in the centre circle, turns his marker, and dinks a ball into the path of Romelu Lukaku, who was free and clear. Unfortunately for him the flag is up, and rightly so.
Pavel Pogrebnyak wins a free kick around 30 yards from goal, but Danny Guthrie ignores everyone else in the box and swings it safely into the arms of Ben Foster.
There really is very little happening. The Reading fans are cheering their side on every time they come forward, but Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley look very comfortable against Pavel Pogrebnyak, who is Reading's only real threat.
This game hasn't really sparked into life yet. Both sides seem happy to play the ball around without much urgency, although Reading will want to get a goal to settle their inevitable nerves.
The Baggies are beginning to move forward and get some time on the ball. Jonas Olsson, as good as he is defensively, is also trying to create attacks with some good passes.
The hosts have had all of the ball and all of the chances so far, but the West Brom defence looks untroubled. Reading may have to wear them down to get something from this tie.
Chris Gunter swings a cross into the box from the right, but Jobi McAnuff's header is terrible and actually falls behind him rather than going forward.
An early warning for West Brom. A long ball is played into the path of Jimmy Kebe and the Malian controls it superbly, drawing Ben Foster out of his goal. Kebe tries to chip it onto the head of Pavel Pogrebnyak, but Jonas Olsson heads clear.
Reading have started brightly and have several players willing to move about. Unfortunately the passing isn't up to scratch and the runs are in vain.
West Brom get us underway here in Berkshire.
The Baggies make four changes to the side that drew with QPR. Ben Foster starts in goal in place of Boaz Myhill, and Jonas Olsson has recovered from injury to replace Gabriel Tamas in defence. Zoltan Gera's long-term injury means that want-away Graeme Dorrans gets a start, whilst Shane Long misses out against his former club with Jerome Thomas taking his berth.
The Royals make several changes to the team that beat Crawley in the FA Cup. Chris Gunter and Adrian Mariappa come into defence in the place of Sean Morrison and Sean Cummings. Mikele Leigertwood is injured and so Daniel Carrico takes his place, whilst Pavel Pogrebnyak starts up front with both Noel Hunt and Adam Le Fondre dropping out. Danny Guthrie comes in, and both Jimmy Kebe and Jobi McAnuff take the places of Hal Robson-Kanu and Garath McCleary on either wing.
This match represents the 20th time that West Brom travel to Reading, but the first time that they will meet there in the top flight. The Baggies have won three and lost three of their last six away from home, and will be hoping to add another to the wins column, whilst 11 of Reading's 13 points this season have come at home. For Reading, they have attempted the fewest shots and had the most shots against them in the whole league, which won't make pleasant Reading for their fans.
Kevin Friend takes charge of this tie, making his 20th appearance of the season. In his previous 19 games, he has shown 70 yellow cards and two reds. One of those reds came in Reading's draw with Stoke in August, where Dean Whitehead was sent off, whilst Mr Friend was also in the middle for Reading's incredible 7-5 loss to Arsenal in the Capital One Cup. The only time he has officiated West Brom this season was their 1-0 loss to Stoke in early December.
The Baggies were dealt a cruel blow earlier this week when Zoltan Gera was ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate injury, but better news came in the form of Romelu Lukaku's loan being confirmed until the end of the season. Youssouf Mulumbu has departed the club for the African Cup of Nations, whilst Claudio Yacob, Steven Reid, Jonas Olsson and Goran Popov are all missing with a variety of injuries. Shane Long could make his first start against the team where he made his name.
Reading new-boys Daniel Carrico and Hope Akpan are both in the squad today, and could be involved from the start. Stephen Kelly arrived from Fulham yesterday but will not feature. Hal Robson-Kanu and Jason Roberts are both missing with knee and hip problems respectively, whilst Alex McCarthy is making good recovery from shoulder surgery but is not ready to return. Mikele Leigertwood is touch and go following a knock in the cup win against Crawley, whilst Adam Le Fondre could drop to the bench despite two goals in that game.
Hello and welcome to today's game between Reading and West Brom. The Royals have been on a mini-revival of late, picking up two wins and one draw from their last four fixtures. West Brom, on the other hand, have only won once in their last four. Despite this, The Baggies sit 12 places above their hosts, and both sides will be batttling to take all three points. Stay with us for team news.
