Start Half

Reading leave White Hart Lane upset that they didn`t run Spurs closer as they missed three gilt-edged chances and conceded some soft goals. Pavel Pogrebnyak grabbed the opening goal after he reacted quickest to Ian Harte's free kick that hit the bar. However, the away side then gifted Michael Dawson the equaliser when they fell asleep at a corner. Worse was to come in the second half when Reading dropped off and allowed Aaron Lennon time to pick out Emmanuel Adebayor, who finished well. Pavel Pogrebnyak, Jimmy Kebe and Alex Pearce then all passed up chances to equalise before Clint Dempsey scored via a horrible deflection to confirm the three points for Spurs.
Howard Webb brings the game to an end.
More fine play from Spurs as they release Kyle Walker down the right. The full back stumbles a little but still delivers a cross and somehow it is cleared by Reading.
It's all Spurs now. Reading invite Scott Parker onto them and the midfielder hits a great shot, but Adam Federici flings himself across the goal to claw the ball away from the top corner.
Emmanuel Adebayor is replaced by Jake Livermore.
It's a big chance for Spurs as the ball is drifted towards the head of Emmanuel Adebayor, who looks sure to score until Clint Dempsey sneaks in front of him and delivers a terrible header.
Another chance for Jermain Defoe, but Adam Federici does well to stand up and block. Chris Gunter is there to clear the rebound.
The away side must really feel that they should be level rather than two goals down as they have matched Spurs for much of this game and even had three of the game's better chances.
Spurs have sealed this game completely against the run of play. Clint Dempsey gets some space and hits a shot. Mikele Leigertwood gets back to block, but only succeeds in deflecting the ball over Adam Federici and into the net.
A massive chance for Reading as Jimmy Kebe escapes down the right. The away fans think they have an equaliser but Kyle Naughton got back to block.
Clint Dempsey comes on for Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Pavel Pogrebnyak rolls Jan Vertonghen and sprints towards goal. Hugo Lloris saves the first shot, but punches it straight back to the striker. Pogrebnyak heads towards an empty net, but the ball goes agonisingly wide.
Kyle Naughton escapes down the left and he wastes no time in sending a shot in towards Adam Federici's goal, but the defender's technique let him down and the ball drifts over.
Moussa Dembele is replaced by Scott Parker.
Ian Harte gets sucked into the centre of the pitch and Spurs try to take immediate advantage by releasing Aaron Lennon. The winger finds Jermain Defoe, but the striker scruffs his shot wide of the post.
A hopeful long shot from Spurs is straight down the throat of Adam Federici and he holds the ball well.
Brian McDermott has seen enough and decides to make a change. Hal Robson-Kanu comes on for Jem Karacan.
Aaron Lennon races through and has a shot blocked. Emmanuel Adebayor gets to the loose ball and lays another chance on for the winger, but this time the shot is deflected wide.
Andre Villas-Boas is furious with the referee as he has given Reading a controversial free kick.
Aaron Lennon does well to get to the byline and cross for Emmanuel Adebayor. The big striker jumps well and powers the header past Adam Federici.
The home side are once again controlling the game and Reading are dropping far too deep.
Danger for Reading as Emmanuel Adebayor finds Jermain Defoe and tries to curl the ball into the far corner, but Adam Federici dives and catches the ball.
Spurs get us back under way.
The game got off to a blistering start with two goals in the opening ten minutes. Reading open the scoring when Ian Harte's free kick was touched onto the bar by Hugo Lloris, but Pavel Pogrebnyak had followed in and he buried the rebound into the back of the net. Spurs would not be behind for long as Michael Dawson caught the Reading defence sleeping from a corner and was able to glance a header home. However, since those goals the game has quietened down with the home side making most of the running but struggling to create a clear cut chance.
The referee brings the first half to a close.
Sandro is given way too much time and he hits a swirling shot. Adam Federici panics and can only parry. Thankfully for the keeper, Ian Harte is following in and he clears.
Jermain Defoe turns on the edge of the box and hits a low shot, which Adam Federici does well to stretch to save and bring into his body. Good goalkeeping.
Better from Spurs as Jermain Defoe spins the defence and hits a shot that flashes just past the post. Can Reading hold on until half time?
Spurs are beginning to look a little bit frustrated as Reading continue to defend well.
Reading finally get their passing going and fashion a chance for Jimmy Kebe to get in behind the Spurs defence, but the winger makes his run too soon and is caught offside.
Reading have noticably dropped off their pressing and they are now happy to sit all their players behind the ball. Spurs are knocking the ball about well, but are focusing too many attacks down the middle.
Ian Harte looks like he is in trouble as Aaron Lennon looks to jink past him, but the defender slides in well to win the ball.
Moussa Dembele squeezes past Jem Karacan. The midfielder hits a curling shot, but the slice on the ball just eases it the wrong side of the post.
Both side's are playing at a high tempo and are quick to close the opposition down. It is making it a frantic game with the ball changing hands often.
Poor play from Danny Guthrie on the far side as he runs into an offside position and brings a promising Reading attack to an end.
Jermain Defoe shows his confidence and rolls the defender. The striker doesn`t even have to look up as he instantly smashes a shot at goal, but it is high and wide.
From a corner, Michael Dawson makes a run to the front post, gets to the ball before the defender and glances the ball home for the equaliser. What a start!
Ian Harte gets frustrated as Emmanuel Adebayor holds the defender off with his body strength and eventually the left back goes through the striker to hand Spurs a free kick.
Pavel Pogrebnyak does well to burst past two defenders and he is brought down 25 yards out. Ian Harte hits the bar with the free kick and Pavel Pogrebnyak gets on to the rebound. The big striker turns the ball home.
Reading kick off and we are under way.
Spurs are forced into a reshuffle due to Gareth Bale's one-match suspension. Gylfi Sigurdsson comes into the side for the winger whilst Jan Vertonghen comes in at centre back for Steven Caulker.
With Reading finding form in their last two games, Brian McDermott sensibly names an unchanged side for the visit to Spurs.
All is well at Spurs at the moment. Three wins in their last four games has seen them to climb into the top four. The central midfield partnership between Moussa Dembélé and Sandro is blossoming. And today they face a struggling Reading side, where a win will put pressure on Chelsea in third.
The win against West Ham saw Reading end a run of seven games without a win, but if they are to climb out of trouble they need to follow it up with a resolute performance against Spurs. With two consecutive clean sheets, Brian McDermott finally seems to have sorted his defence out and they will need to be at their best today.
The critics of Andre Villas-Boas are looking a little silly right now as Spurs make good on their challenge for a Champions League spot. and a win against struggling Reading today could see them jump into third. However, Brian McDermott will hope to use some of that confidence from his side's victory over West Ham at the weekend to get a good performance from his side and they may just trouble a Spurs side missing Gareth Bale.
