Start Half

West Ham squander their advantage in a couple of minutes, as goals from Joe Cole and James Collins (o.g) allow Liverpool to overturn a one-goal deficit and enter the top 10 for the first time this season. It's also the first time they've recorded back-to-back wins in the league this season, so Brendan Rodgers will have every reason to be happy with his team, especially in the absence of Luis Suarez.
Added time comes to an end and Liverpool hang on to claim the three points.
One minute left and West Ham are in possession...
Jonjo Shelvey is felled in the penalty area but the referee instantly waves away the protests. Replays are inconclusive, but the protests eat up some vital time, anyway.
Brendan Rodgers looks shellshocked as the fourth official announces five added minutes.
Modibo Maiga, who has come on for Matthew Taylor, gets a decent headed chance as West Ham give everything. Kevin Nolan busts a gut to keep the ball in and Matthew Jarvis puts another dangerous ball in. Pepe Reina does just enough to deny Maiga a clear sight at goal.
As both Jonjo Shelvey and James Collins dived in to meet Jordan Henderson's cross, it seems that Collins got the final touch to take it over his keeper. Shelvey celebrated as if it was his goal, but it does look like a James Collins own-goal. That aside, the most important thing is that Liverpool scored, and now the home side are piling forward in search of a levelling goal. Big Sam will be wondering how this situation came about.
Unbelievable comeback out of nowhere. As West Ham seemed to be running away with the game, Liverpool have hit back with two goals in quick succession. This goal is crafted by Jordan Henderson who crosses it low for JONJO SHELVEY, who lifts it over a helpless Jussi Jaaskelainen.
As proved in today's earlier encounter between Everton and Spurs, a couple of minutes can change the game. Liverpool regain the lead through Jonjo Shelvey!
It's wide open now as Liverpool score a surprise equaliser. Raheem Sterling threads the ball through neatly for JOE COLE, who places it perfectly into the corner from a tight angle with what can only be described as a 'Joe Cole finish'.
It's an equaliser out of nowhere for Liverpool. Joe Cole the hero.
Bad news for West Ham, as Mohamed Diame goes down clutching his hamstring and it's immediately apparent that it's a bad one. He has been excellent today, but the home side will have to see the game out without him, as he is stretchered off, being replaced by James Tomkins.
Brendan Rodgers, recognising the lack of support for Jonjo Shelvey, makes an attacking change, with Jordan Henderson on for Lucas Leiva.
Jonjo Shelvey is struggling up there - despite his best efforts to close down every ball, there is no one in support. The Englishman isn't getting much service and the work he's doing himself is useless if he has nobody to pass to in the final third.
That's the closest Liverpool have come to an equaliser, as Stewart Downing's cross is headed out, only as far as Raheem Sterling, who strikes the ball well and forces Jussi Jaaskelainen to tip the ball over.
West Ham United launch another attack, but the cross in only reaches Glen Johnson. Kevin Nolan doesn't give up though, and charges down Johnson's clearance. The ball was struck so viciously that if the rebound had been on target, Pepe Reina would have had no time to react. Instead, it goes inches wide.
Liverpool's attacking prowess shown in the first half has all but vanished as West Ham show great determination to close down each attempt. The Hammers are looking good on the break too.
You may have expected West Ham to shut up shop during this second half. Instead, they are pressing for a third, which is looking more and more likely. This time, Carlton Cole shows great strength to hold the ball up and allow Matthew Jarvis to find space. He cuts inside and forces a corner, which is cleared with ease once again.
A scrappy West Ham attack is partially cleared several times, but Kevin Nolan manages to get a shot away. Stewart Downing makes the block and concedes a fruitless corner.
The excellent work of Glen Johnson is reversed by a below-par Steven Gerrard, who completely miskicks his attempted cross, which ends up in row Z.
The second half as started in pretty much the same fashion as the first did, with both sides unafraid to attack, but neither making a significant impression.
We're off again, with George McCartney coming on at half time to replace Guy Demel.
Liverpool started the game as well as they have all season, and deservedly led after 10 minutes through a sensational curling shot from Glen Johnson. The visitors looked good for their lead as they continued to test Jussi Jaaskelainen's goal. The game changed when West Ham United were awarded a very dubious penalty, which Mark Noble converted. Much to the disbelief of Brendan Rodgers, the Hammers then took the lead via a Steven Gerrard own-goal. 2-1 West Ham at the interval but still a long way to go, especially in a game as open as this.
Liverpool are dominating the latter stages but aren't really causing any problems for the organised defence of West Ham. And that's the end of the first period as West Ham go into the break a goal to the good.
Liverpool had deservedly lead and it is quite unbelievable that West Ham have turned this around. Matthew Jarvis, who has been causing problems all afternoon, puts an absolute beauty into the area, and STEVEN GERRARD nods it into his own net.
West Ham United lead from an unlikely source - Steven Gerrard puts the ball into his own net! West Ham 2, Liverpool 1.
Mohamed Diame is pulling all the strings for the home side, and this time he escapes the challenge of two Liverpool players, before releasing Matthew Jarvis, who shows great pace to burst into the penalty area. He pulls it back but nobody can make the most of it - eventually Guy Demel receives it on the right-hand side and crosses it for Matthew Taylor, who nods over.
Liverpool will feel aggrieved by that decision from the referee. It was a shot from Mohamed Diame that hit the hand of Joe Allen at point-blank range. There's nothing the Liverpool midfielder could do about that as he attempted to charge down Diame's fierce effort.
West Ham United equalise as MARK NOBLE places the ball coolly into the corner.
West Ham have a route back into the game with a penalty, awarded for handball against Joe Allen.
A promising Liverpool corner quickly turns into an opportunity for West Ham, who break incisively. Mohamed Diame covers a great distance, outpacing Steven Gerrard, who lunges at him from behind. The Englishman is the second man to go into the book, alongside Jonjo Shelvey, for a professional foul.
At face value, having to play Stewart Downing at left-back would seem like a blow to Liverpool's great start to the game, and, true, he hasn't been tested defensively yet. However, with Downing assisting in attack down the left, and Johnson down the right, the Liverpool attack could be a force to be reckoned with.
Brendan Rodgers is forced into an early change, as Jose Enrique seems to have picked up a knock. Joe Cole comes on to replace him, and it looks like Stewart Downing is going to act as a makeshift left-back.
Matthew Jarvis crosses twice in quick succession. The first lures Pepe Reina out, but the Spaniard fails to collect, resulting in a moment of madness in the penalty area. The Liverpool defence manage to clear, and the second delivery is caught by Reina.
This could be the best we've seen Liverpool play this season, in attacking terms at least. With Gerrard free to roam, and Glen Johnson bombing down the right wing at every opportunity, they look as dangerous as ever.
Steven Gerrard concedes a free kick just in front of the halfway line. The resulting free kick results in a free header for Carlton Cole, but he has to head it backwards at doesn't get enough power on it to cause problems.
Liverpool are playing with an even greater urgency after the restart, with Gerrard and Shelvey going close. The best chance falls to Raheem Sterling, though. Glen Johnson, confident after his wonder goal, outmanoeuvres the West Ham left-back, before sliding it into Sterling, who should really score. The young starlet hits it sweetly, but fails to hit the target, dragging the shot inches wide.
Who needs a striker? GLEN JOHNSON strolls through midfield before curling an absolute beauty beyond the outstretched gloves of Jussi Jaaskelainen and right into the top corner. Great goal!
Glen Johnson puts Liverpool ahead with a magnificent solo effort.
West Ham United put together the first meaningful attack, with Mohamed Diame creating space and delivering towards Carlton Cole, who tries to improvise by using his body to test the keeper. It goes wide, and Kevin Nolan also goes close moments later.
Both teams are keen to settle in, as they exchange fairly average spells of possession, in which they try in vain to create chances. Still, both sides are showing ambition in the early stages.
Liverpool get things underway at Upton Park, and the West Ham defence are called into action straight away, as Steven Gerrard earns an early corner for the visitors.
Brendan Rodgers solves the striker crisis by appointing Jonjo Shelvey as the chief goal-getter. Adam Morgan is also on the bench, and would make his Premier League debut if brought on. The good news is that with the return of Lucas Leiva, Steven Gerrard may be assigned a slightly more attacking role, which is a potential nightmare for any defence.
With Andy Carroll absent, Carlton Cole heads the line-up for the Hammers, with Modibo Maiga only managing a spot on the bench today. George McCartney, who is recovering from injury, is also among the substitutes.
Kick off is at 16.00 BST. Join us shortly beforehand for confirmed team news, followed by live text commentary.
Liverpool are obviously lacking their top-scorer, Luis Suarez, and without any recognised strikers, it will be interesting to see what Brendan Rogers fathoms up. Captain Steven Gerrard will return after illness.
On-loan striker Andy Carroll won't feature today as he is both injured and ineligible, and with Ricardo Vaz Te still out, Big Sam will probably look to Carlton Cole or Modiba Maiga to threaten the Liverpool goal. George McCartney and Yossi Benayoun are still doubtful.
When delving into the numerous past meetings of these two clubs, you'll find some belters in amongst the low-key draws. West Ham fans, remember that 7-0 drubbing you gave Liverpool back in 1930? Probably not, but it'll be a trump card for you in the post-match ‘analysis'. Liverpool's biggest win came in 1965, when they thrashed West Ham 5-1.
The reds have the best of the head-to-head record, notching up 65 wins out of the 123 past meetings. Today's home side have won 24 times and it has ended all square on 34 occasions. These sides last locked horns two seasons ago, when West Ham ended up being relegated. Nevertheless, three of the measly 33 points they tallied up that season, they took from Liverpool, with a 3-1 win at Upton Park. Liverpool won the reverse fixture 3-0 at Anfield. Interestingly, Upton Park has been a fortress this season – 15 of West Ham's current 22 points have come at home and the only team to have beaten the Hammers at home is Arsenal.
Brendan Rogers will have some thinking to do as top-scorer Luis Suarez is suspended for the trip to Upton Park. Liverpool star Suarez, although dividing opinions with his innovative celebrations and sometimes questionable slips and stumbles in the area, has left no room for argument when it comes to his scoring record. The Uruguayan international has accounted for 10 league goals in 15 appearances. The rest of the team put together have only managed nine goals between them! So today, while they may miss the presence of their trusty frontman, it's a chance for Liverpool to dispel the notion that they are a ‘one man team'.
With arguably the biggest game in English football – the Manchester derby – preceding this, some of the limelight could be taken away from a potentially thrilling, and no doubt competitive mid-table clash between West Ham and Liverpool. Both sides are looking to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season, after the Hammers impressively came back to topple Chelsea 3-1, and Liverpool enjoyed an inconspicuous win over Southampton.
