Start Half

Well, the stats each tell a different story. Wigan win on possession and attempts on goal, while the visitors win on corner count and, more importantly, scoreline. Goals from James Morrison and Gary Caldwell (own-goal) gave West Brom an advantage coming into the second half. Arouna Kone had pulled one back late in the first period. Wigan completely dominated but Steve Clarke tactically outwitted Roberto Martinez with resolute defending and rapid counter-attacks to hold out for the three points.
It's all over as Wigan fail to find a late equaliser.
West Brom seemed to be running down the clock but out of nowhere Youssouf Mulumbu chipped the ball towards the far post and it clipped the woodwork before going out.
Zoltan Gera is cautioned and Wigan have a dangerous free kick opportunity but it comes to nothing.
With no injuries and virtually no stoppages, the referee has somehow concluded that five minutes should be added.
West Brom now make their final change with Markus Rosenberg coming on for Romelu Lukaku.
Franco Di Santo is lurking at the back post but Jean Beausejour takes it himself, heading wide. It should be a goal kick but the linesman gives a corner and Roberto Martinez makes a double change, with nothing to lose now. Mauro Boselli and Jordi Gomez on; Franco Di Santo and Ben Watson off.
Another Wigan attack breaks down as Franco Di Santo is not expecting a pass from Ben Watson and it goes out for a West Brom throw-in. Wigan come forward again and Di Santo heads over.
Wigan are enfuriated as a good attack comes to an end with Ben Watson illegally felled by Billy Jones. Jones is booked and the free kick falls to James McCarthy, who goes down in the area and is harshly booked for diving.
Callum McManaman, Jordi Gomez and Mauro Boselli are all on the bench and now might be a good time to use them with only 15 minutes left to find an equaliser.
Shaun Maloney is left with his head in his hands as he gets a great chance at the back post following a Franco Di Santo cross. Maloney gets underneath the ball and ends up firing well over the bar.
West Bromwich Albion make a double change with Peter Odemwingie and Zoltan Gera entering the fray. Shane Long and James Morrison - who is just back from injury - leave the field. Romelu Lukaku has been booked.
Wigan finally look threatening as they catch West Brom short of numbers at the back. Arouna Kone's super run goes unspotted and Beausejour spurns the opportunity with a terrible effort from way out.
West Brom's defence is so well-marshalled that the home side are constrained to passing well outside the Baggies' area. Ronnie Stam has come on for Gary Caldwell. Stam's first touch is a great delivery from the left but nobody can get on the end of it.
West Bromwich Albion's unsubtle approach is working a treat as they bombard the Wigan area with continuous crosses, which the Latics' defence are really struggling with. Chris Brunt and Shane Long's shots are both saved.
Ali Al Habsi keeps the deficit at one goal with an incredible save. Romelu Lukaku's inswinging effort looks destined for the goal but Al Habsi somehow tips it over the bar.
Wigan's dominance in this second period is not only shown by the fact they have had over 80% possession, but now they look much more incisive. The chances are non-stop now as Gary Caldwell heads over before Emmerson Boyce's superb run is halted by Youssouf Mulumbu. They are still a goal behind though, and need to make their chances count now.
Ben Watson unleashes a great strike from distance and Boaz Myhill can only parry it away into the path of Jean Beausejour, who skies the rebound. Claudio Yacob was booked early in the second half.
West Bromwich Albion are very happy with the way this game is going. Steve Clarke's philosophy of sitting back and countering has been working like clockwork - Wigan Athletic have struggled to break the defence down and West Brom have created many more chances in the first half, but the home side look a little more determined already in this second period.
The second half is underway with neither side making any changes at the break.
The home side started brightly and looked in complete control, with Ben Watson going close after 10 minutes. West Brom grew into the game and continued to put the ball into the area - something which Wigan lacked. West Brom's persistence paid off as James Morrison put the visitors ahead with a headed effort. Gary Caldwell's own goal doubled the visitors' lead but Wigan Athletic pegged them back immediately as Arouna Kone's goal concluded a thrilling end to the first half.
We go into the break after a high-tempo finish to the first half. Wigan Athletic 1, West Bromwich Albion 2.
You could say that it's unfortunate for Wigan, but West Bromwich Albion's continous balls into the Wigan area seem to be paying off. Billy Jones plays it in and GARY CALDWELL can't avoid putting it into his own net. Wigan respond immediately from the kick off with Jean Beausejour playing a rare threatening ball into the West Brom area and AROUNA KONE keeps his cool to place it past Boaz Myhill. West Bromwich Albion 2, Wigan 1.
Arouna Kone responds immediately to make it 2-1 West Brom.
Gary Caldwell turns the ball into his own goal to make it West Bromwich Albion 2, Wigan Athletic 0.
Wigan Athletic are controlling the game once again and their passing is as good as we've seen it. However, they aren't putting nearly as many crosses in as they should be and don't look particularly dangerous in and around West Brom's area. The Baggies turn defence into attack again and Billy Jones' long-range shot goes into the side-netting.
It's against the run of play but West Brom - despite not having a great deal of possession - have looked threatening when they do come forward. Chris Brunt is the creator as his ball in leaves Ali Al Habsi unsure whether to come and collect or not. He wrongly decides not to and JAMES MORRISON makes the most of a free header from four yards out.
James Morrison's header puts West Bromwich Albion in the lead.
Wigan Athletic are enjoying the majority of possession at the moment but they aren't making use of it and West Bromwich Albion look dangerous on the counter-attack. James McCarthy makes a superb challenge to halt a dangerous-looking attack.
Ali Al Habsi saves Wigan again as a lack of concentration from Maynor Figueroa almost costs the home side. Figueroa's backpass is sloppy and Al Habsi has to rush out to push the ball away from Shane Long. He can't retain control of the ball and is forced to slide tackle Romelu Lukaku on the edge of the area. Great goalkeeping from Al Habsi.
After Wigan completely dominated the opening quarter of an hour, West Bromwich Albion are now giving as good as they get. Ben Watson and Chris Brunt have been pivotal for their teams as most attacks are being orchastrated by these key players.
Shane Long outjumps Gary Caldwell and his header seems to have put Romelu Lukaku through on goal, but Ali Al Habsi is alert to the danger and wins the race to the loose ball.
West Bromwich Albion's first corner is put behind easily but the second isn't dealt with properly. The Latics' defence eventually get it clear but they did look vulnerable from West Brom's first corners of the game.
It's been all Wigan inside this first 15 minutes. They win it in midfield again and Shaun Maloney's cross is just a fraction high for Arouna Kone, who was unmarked at the back post.
James McCarthy is pulling all the strings in midfield early on. He wins the ball in the centre of the park with a great tackle, before releasing Jean Beausejour on the left wing. Beausejour pulls it back for Ben Watson on the edge of the area but his low drive is expertly saved by Boaz Myhill. Chris Brunt turns it behind for a fruitless corner before Arouna Kone can pounce on the rebound.
James McCarthy picks the ball up but his attempt to find Arouna Kone is unsuccessful. He gets it back and tries to go alone this time but his shot doesn't trouble the goalkeeper.
No attacks of real intent so far. Maynor Figueroa tries a well-struck left-footer from 20 yards but it goes narrowly wide.
Ben Watson is looking influential early on as he sparks an early Wigan attack. He feeds Emmerson Boyce in but his cross from the right is unanswered.
After observing a minute of silence in honour of the armed forces, inside the DW Stadium, West Bromwich Albion get the game underway.
Boaz Myhill deputises for Ben Foster, who is out with a groin injury. James Morrison returns to the side, which will be a big boost for the visitors today. Peter Odemwingie - the first player to score a brace for West Brom since he netted twice back in February against Sunderland - only makes the bench, with Shane Long getting a chance to impress from the off.
It's been a pretty regular side so far this season for Wigan with seven different players starting all 10 matches this season. Arouna Kone will make his tenth appearance today, while James McArthur misses out, with Ben Watson (who scored the winning goal against Spurs last time out) stepping in again.
Kick off is at 15.00 BST. Join us around half an hour beforehand for confirmed team news, followed by live text commentary.
James Morrison looks good to go as he has recovered from a hamstring injury. Ben Foster looks doubtful though, as he continues to nurse a groin problem. Boaz Myhill looks set to deputise between the sticks.
James McArthur, who scored here last season, will be touch and go right until kick off, as he tries to overcome a dead leg. Ryo Miyaichi is out again and Albert Crusat will join him on the sidelines, suffering from a knee injury.
It's been a limited history between the two, meeting just 17 times previously. It's been an even affair though, with Wigan winning seven, West Brom six and four draws. Interestingly, West Brom have outscored the Latics in the 17 encounters 23-20. Wigan took four points off West Brom last year, coming back to win 2-1 at the Hawthorns, while the teams drew 1-1 in this fixture last season as Paul Scharner cancelled out James McArthur's strike at the DW. The Baggies last beat Wigan in 2009.
It would seem that Wigan have the home advantage, however, they have actually picked up more points on their travels this season. The Latics' defensive record at the DW leaves much to be desired – their last clean sheet came in April, meaning that they have a run of six straight games without a shutout. It's not all bad news for Wigan fans though - West Brom have struggled on unfamiliar turf, as today they look for their first away win of the current campaign. The Baggies have scored only three away goals so far, leading to two draws and two losses on their travels.
The last time Wigan won three on the bounce in the Premier League was in the last three games of last season, when they usually start to show the form they have produced of late – they are coming off back-to-back wins over Spurs and West Ham, giving them their second highest points total after 10 games since 2007. Today they host West Brom, who are also showing the form of their lives. they lie in fifth place, the highest after 10 games since 1982-82. We look set for a good game as both sides want to continue their impressive results streak.
