An entertaining encounter at Carrow Road saw the two sides share the points to get them off the mark for the season. Norwich were the better team and had the better chances, but just could not find the winning goal. They took the lead following some good build up play when Jackson headed home, but QPR were level when Zamora controversially tucked away a rebound from a Cisse penalty. QPR looked a far more solid defensive unit in the second half, following the arrival of Nedum Onuoha at half time, but threatened little going forward. Mark Hughes will need to see more from Jamie Mackie and Junior Hoilett on the flanks, whilst Cisse struggled to stay onside when he had a chance to stretch his legs. Robert Snodgrass was probably the best player on the pitch in an attacking sense, whilst Barnett and Bassong looked like a solid pairing at the back.
Thats it. After heavy defeats last weekend these two settle for a point apiece. Norwich City 1 - 1 Queens Park Rangers
Guess who?
Lovely run again from Snodgrass as he dances to the byline, but he just runs out of space to find a yellow shirt.
Three minutes signalled. Three minutes for anyone to grab the winner? It looks like both sides are settling for a draw.
Junior Hoilett is down after receiving a whack in the face from Jonathan Howson. He should be ok to continue.
Some mild boos from the Norwich fans as Grant Holt & Simeon Jackson are replaced wth Steve Morison & Chris Martin for the last couple of minutes.
Djibril Cisse seems to be really struggling to stay onside today. On the occasion there is some space behind the Norwich defence, the flag is raised against the Frenchman.
A like-for-like substitution for QPR sees Shaun Derry replace Samba Diakite. Hughes settling for a draw?
From the resulting free kick, a looping header from Russell Martin comes crashing back off the bar. Just nobody there to tuck home the rebound. Unlucky.
Yellow card for Anton Ferdinand for hauling down Grant Holt. The Norwich number 9 just gets his considerable bulk in the way, leaving the defenders with few options.
Pilkington was obviously jealous of Zamora and fires an effort of his own well over the bar.
Zamore misses twice in quick succession from long range. By a long way!
Junior Hoilett & Jamie Mackie have been very quiet on the flanks for QPR, barely getting a mention.
Zamora returns, sporting a lovely head bandage, after six minutes and three stitches.
Both teams opt for five minutes of long ball football...
Jose Bosingwa comes on for his QPR debut to replace a tired-looking Armand Traore. Fabio switches to left back.
Snodgrass this time, with a free header at the back post, but his header drifts just wide. Good play from Howson to find space for the cross.
Bobby Zamora receives a bang on the back of the head and has to leave the field to stop the bleeding.
Norwich are starting to create chances, and Snodgrass perhaps picked the wrong option, opting to try and outside-of-the-boot ball across the box, rather than a simple pull back to an un-marked Holt.
Norwich should be in front. Sebastien Bassong gets up early for a free header towards goal, but can't direct his header towards goal.
No disrespect to Clint Hill, but Nedum Onuoha looks much more comfortable in this half; showing good pace and strength against Jackson to shepherd a dangerous ball out of play.
A dangerous-looking free kick for QPR is chipped harmlessly into the wall by Hoilett. A good opportunity wasted.
QPR are playing some better football, with short passes to feet, rather than high balls towards Zomara's head.
Fabio makes a superb defensive header to nick the ball off the head of Grant Holt, when a effort on goal looked certain. You wouldn't have picked Fabio to be the winner of that aerial duel.
A bit of confusion on the edge of the box between Robert Green and Nedum Onuoha. Almost a calamity there, and more worries for Mark Hughes. A bit of communication please lads.
Simeon Jackson breaks into the box and has another pot shot, but it sails high and wide. The Norwich man is obviously fancying his chances this half.
QPR's next fixtures are against Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham. You would expect Mark Hughes needs to get something out of this game.
Robert Snodgrass is moving a little gingerly, so Chris Hughton sends Andrew Surman to warm up, just in case.
Zamora tosses the ball into the box, and the flag stays down, but Cisse cant quite get anything on it, despite launching himself into the air.
Simeon Jackson has an early shot from ten yards, but can only find the side netting.
QPR get the second half underway.
In a not unexpected move, Clint Hill has been replaced by Nedum Onuoha at half time. Battle won by Holt!
A feisty first half sees the scores level at half time. Norwich deservedly lead after 11 minutes when Simeon Jackson tucked away an Anthony Pilkington cross from close range. QPR were back in the game, somewhat fortuitously, when Mark Clattenburg awarded what looked a soft penalty. Ruddy saved Cisse's spot kick well, but Zamora was on hand to tuck away the rebound. Most controversially, replays show that Zamora was well inside the box when the penalty was taken. Norwich have looked the better side throughout the half, and Grant Holt is giving Clint Hill a real rough ride - the QPR man walking a disciplinary tightrope. QPR are lucky to be level, and will need more attacking possession to stay in this game.
No further chances, as the ref brings the first half to a close. Norwich City 1 - 1 Queens Park Rangers
Two minutes signalled.
I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Clint Hill in the second half. He is having a torrid time against Holt, and the Norwich man is getting involved in every 50-50 challenge, knowing that a second yellow card cannot be too far away.
Snodgrass finds himself a bit of space on the edge of the box, and rifles a left footed shot towards goal, but Green stands tall and tips it over the bar.
Ji-Sung Park is showing his usual tanacity, driving forward into the box, past a couple of defenders, but his cross is crowded out. More of that please.
It's not quite working for QPR today. A simple ten yard pass from Samba Diakite, goes out of play a good three or four yards behind Hoilett, much to the delight of the home fans.
A bit of dissent here from Clint Hill (again), and this is looking very dangerous. The ref gives him a final warning.
Clint Hill gives away another foul against Grant Holt. He will have to be very careful here.
Norwich are definitely looking the better of the two sides. The midfield four of Johnson, Howson, Pilkington and Snodgrass are dominating their opposite numbers.
Clint Hill is not having his best defensive game as he gives away another free kick against Holt.
Holt is going nowhere, down towards the corner flag, but Clint Hill decides to rugby tackle him. Strange decision from the QPR man earns him a booking.
Interesting, replays show that Zamora was well inside the box when the penalty was struck. Norwich may well feel hard done by.
The penalty came frrom QPR's first real attacking move. Hoilett with some time out on the left plays a ball into feet of Zamora, and Basson comes through the back of him, without touching the ball. Perhaps a little soft, but the contact was definitely there.
Back to the penalty decision shortly. The goal was scored by Bobby Zamora, after John Ruddy makes a fine save down low to his left from Djibril Cisse's penalty. Zamora is the first one to react and tucks home past the hapless Norwich keeper.
Bobby Zamora tucks away the penalty rebound. Norwich City 1- 1 Queens Park Rangers
Mark Clattenburg gives QPR a penalty. That looks soft.
QPR have used an amazing 45 players in the last 15 months...wow!
Anthony Pilkington in particularly is having a lively start. He looks well up for this as he repeatedly finds space out on the left. Fabio will have his work cut out tonight.
Snodgrass finds space in an almost identical postition, but his cross just lacks the quality and is cleared to safety. You can see the confidence building in the Norwich team.
Lovely football from Norwich. A quick interchange of passes from Jackson and Snodgrass, just in front of the QPR penalty area, releases Anthony Pilkington down the left. A superb dinked cross finds Jackson in the middle, and he can't miss from three yards.
Scratch that. Jackson gets the campagin underway for Norwich. Norwich City 1 - Queens Park Rangers .
A tentative start at Carrow road. Neither side have really taken control after the first ten minutes.
Good early start here for QPR, pushing Norwich back into their own box, but they started well last week...
The physio is on to treat Anton Ferdinand, as the first ball into the box sees Grant Holt's arm accidentally hit him in the face. Ferdinand OK to continue.
New signings Bassong and Garrido both go straight into the Norwich line-up. But QPR's new boy Bosingwa only makes the bench.
Both managers have opted for a 4-4-2 formation today, with Jackson supporting Holt up front for the Canaries and Zamora joing Cisse for his first taste of Premiership football this season.
So here we are, two sides desperate for the chance to start their season again. Norwich get the game underway.
With Norwich and QPR both on the wrong end of 0-5 drubbings on opening weekend, could this be the start of ‘Second Season Syndrome' for these relative newbie's. Chris Hughton described the experience last week as 'awful', while Mark Hughes labelled his side ‘exceptionally poor'. You get the feeling that stronger words may have been used in private, and we could see two very different sides making an appearance today. It is games like this, and the way these sides recover that could show the fans what to expect for the rest of this very young season.
We all know about Grant Holt. The powerful forward had an excellent first season in the premiership, and many fans were unhappy when it looked as though he may be heading for pastures new. The first job of Chris Hughton's reign was to sign him up to a new deal, and the manager will be hoping his hard work will be repayed with a goal or two. Junior Hoilett arrived at Loftus Road with a big reputation, after a solid spell at Blackburn, with a few surprised that this part of London was his destination. His pace and direct running can cause problems to any defence.
Chris Hughton has two new defensive signings available - Sebastian Bassong from Spurs and one-time Man City man Javier Garrido. Steven Whittaker, Jacob Butterfield, David Fox and Eliiot Ward are all expected to miss out through injury. Summer signing Robert Snodgrass is poised to make his 300th club career appearance.
QPRs new man Jose Bosingwa could start after making the short trip from Chelsea, and whilst another Chelsea old-boy Riccardo Carvalho has been heavily linked in the press, no deal has been confirmed. Mark Hughes is expected to ring the changes following last week's defeat, with experienced trio Ryan Nelson, Shaun Derry and Andy Johnson rumoured to be pushing for a starting berth.
Recent form seems to point towards a home win, as Norwich did the double over QPR last season, winning both games 2-1. In further bad news for the hoops, they have won just 8 of their 56 league trips to Carrow Road. However, last season, Norwich had the worst defensive record outside of the three relegated teams; conceding 30 goals and keeping only three clean sheets. Interestingly QPR were the league's worst away side, taking just 11 points from their 19 matches. They do however, have a potential match winner in Djibril Cisse, who has scored four goals in his past five games.
Mark Clattenburg takes control of his first match of the season, in a fixture which has seen four red cards dished out in the last seven matches – all to QPR players. In his 24 league matches last season, Clattenbury average a little over three yellow cards a game.
Stay tuned for build-up, team news and live text commentary.
Ten goals conceded, none scored… it was a nightmare opening weekend for Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers. And the fixture computer has come up trumps again by pairing the two against each other as Chris Hughton and Mark Hughes look to pick their teams back up. With so much pride resting on it, this should be a great game.
