Start Half

Wolves wave goodbye to the top division following a valiant effort against a spirited Wigan side. The visitors took the lead through Matt Jarvis' superb curled effort, but Wigan hit back through Franco Di Santo's mis-hit effort. Emmerson Boyce put the home side into the lead with a thumping header, and the first half settled down after that. The second half started in the same way as the first, with Wigan having most of the play but not doing much with it. However, Boyce put the Latics further into the lead with a rasping volley following a Hugo Rodallega knock-down, and could have had a personal third but chose to cross instead of shoot. Wigan continued to press, with Albert Crusat looking impressive, but Wolves pulled one back after a Piscu mistake, allowing Steven Fletcher to score. However, that was the way the game ended, and Wigan will be delighted to prepare for yet another Premier League season. Wolves, however, will need to regroup for life in the Championship. Final score Wigan 3, Wolves 2.
The referee ends the game, Wigan 3, Wolves 2.
Hugo Rodallega's final effort hits the post! A dinked cross from James McCarthy is glanced on by the Colombian, but it strikes the post and is cleared.
Three minutes were added on a moment ago and they are nearly up. Wigan are keeping the ball here, trying to see out the game.
Albert Crusat does the opposite of his previous effort, aiming his shot across goal, but Carl Ikeme catches it well.
Jordi Gomez and Karl Henry, who had a coming together last season here which saw the Wolves skipper sent off, have another little clash. Gomez is penalised in the end and play continues.
Piscu is at fault completely for this one. He dithers on the ball on the edge of his own area and is robbed, before Ali Al Habsi comes out to save. However, Steven Fletcher is prowling and pokes the ball home. Game on? Wigan 3, Wolves 2.
WOLVES PULL ONE BACK!!!
Emmerson Boyce, who is on a hat-trick, finds himself 10 yards from goal and has the space to shoot. Instead, he tries to cross for Hugo Rodallega. Such a shame.
The game is petering out here, and the fans are settling down too. Not the way that Wolves wanted to leave the Premier League.
Shaun Maloney, whose performances since January have been a catalyst for Wigan's good form, is replaced by Jordi Gomez.
Wigan show some brilliant flowing football, and a deep cross from the left is too high for Hugo Rodallega to aim at goal. He nods it down to the edge of the area, where Emmerson Boyce is waiting, and his sweet shot sails into the top corner. Wigan 3, Wolves 1.
BOYCE GRABS HIS SECOND OF THE AFTERNOON!!!!
Franco Di Santo leaves the field to thunderous applause, as Hugo Rodallega takes his place in what will most likely be his final appearance for the Latics.
Gary Caldwell releases Shaun Maloney, who does well to turn Christophe Berra and head towards goal. Karl Henry heads out of nowhere to rob the ball from the former Celtic man.
Sylvain Ebanks-Blake leaves the field for Steven Fletcher.
Wolves don't want to leave the top flight with a whimper and are pressing for an equaliser here. They win their first corner of the afternoon but it comes to nothing.
Albert Crusat is set free down the left flank and instead of firing his shot across goal, he aims at the near post and hits the side netting.
Albert Crusat dances forward on the right and dinks a cross towards Shaun Maloney, whose effort is stopped smartly by Carl Ikeme.
Matthew Jarvis floats in a free kick from the left-hand side and several players jump for it. Ali Al Habsi barges his way through the crowd and claims the ball with ease.
Jean Beausejour surges down the left flank and sends in a cross, but Albert Crusat just can't reach the ball at the back post and Berra clears.
Christophe Berra is booked for bringing down Franco Di Santo just inside the Wolves half. Berra should have walked there, as no-one was covering him, but the referee has been lenient this time.
Wolves take a quick throw in and the ball is crossed into the box. Sylvain Ebanks-Blake gets his head to it but sends it well over the bar.
Every Wigan touch of the ball is being met with a cheer by the crowd. Their team are still coming forward but the game is slowing down.
Franco Di Santo surges forward and is bundled over by Richard Stearman.
Stephen Hunt leaves the field, with Wolves academy prospect Anthony Forde taking his place.
Kevin Doyle and Piscu challenge for the ball, with the Wigan defender being caught in the face by a stray boot.
Victor Moses, a key man for Wigan this year, applauds the fans as he leaves the field for the last time this season. Albert Crusat takes his place.
Wigan are still causing problems in the wide areas here. Ronald Zubar and Stephen Ward, the Wolves full-backs, are really being tested.
Wigan are still looking better than their opponents, pressuring them at any opportunity without any real end product. Some tiredness is creeping into the play here.
A strange one here, Dorus De Vries being replaced by Carl Ikeme. De Vries does appear to have a slight niggle, however.
Jean Beausejour crosses from the left, looking for the run of Franco Di Santo. The Argentine striker can't quite reach it and Victor Moses, waiting just behind him, gets his shot all wrong.
Wigan are attacking down the flanks and are trying to pressure the Wolves defence. So far, they are doing well.
Albert Crusat has been warming up with some intent over the last few moments and will be coming on shortly.
Wolves start the second period.
Despite there being many more important games in the Barclay's Premier League today, this tie has served up more than a fair share of excitement. Wolves took the lead through a curled Matthew Jarvis effort when the Wigan fans were applauding their eighth season in the league. Wigan hit back almost immediately through Franco Di Santo's mis-hit, before taking the lead through a bullet Emmerson Boyce header. The play fizzled out as the half went on, but there are more goals in this I'm sure. Wigan 2, Wolves, 1.
Michael Oliver ends the half, with Wigan leading Wolves by two goals to one.
Two minutes are added on.
Piscu is booked for catching Matthew Jarvis with a boot.
After all of the early action in this tie, the last few moments have been positively boring. Come on lads, give us something to talk about!
The goals are flying in across the country and there are more twists to come before the end of the afternoon. This game has settled down into a dull rhythm though.
Piscu, who has not played much for Wigan this season, has not had much to do today. He arguably let Jarvis in for the Wolves goal, but apart from that has looked solid.
The play has been in and around the middle of the park in the last few moments, but there are players for both sides who can cause problems when needed.
Victor Moses and Shaun Maloney have been two of the key men in Wigan's late-season revival. Both have been quiet this afternoon, but you know that they can produce some magic when needed.
The fans have settled down and are letting the action on the pitch take precedence at the moment. Wigan are still in control, but Wolves are fighting bravely.
Maynor Figueroa plays in Jean Beausejour down the left flank and he looks to lay the ball off to Franco Di Santo instead of shooting himself. The former Birmingham man should really have let rip there.
Whilst Wolves are going down in rock-bottom place, there is still something to play for in Wigan's case. The home side can still climb to 15th place in the table, and that means more prize money. They need to keep calm and maintain their lead.
The passing has become a bit wayward in the last few moments, especially from the home side. The wind is playing havoc with some of the high balls, however.
If you don't want to hear about the title race, look away now. Manchester United have taken the lead at Sunderland, meaning the title is currently heading to Old Trafford. There's still plenty of time left, though.
This has been a great half of football so far. The players are still giving it their all and both teams are looking to play good football.
Richard Stearman brings down Shaun Maloney from behind and is rightfully shown a yellow card.
Well, those who expected this game to be a quiet affair could not be more wrong. Both sides are giving this their all and want to end their season on a high.
Jean Beausejour curls in a corner from the right-hand side, and Emmerson Boyce rises highest at the back post to power the header in. Wigan 2, Wolves 1.
WIGAN TAKE THE LEAD!!!!
Shaun Maloney runs at the defence and powers in a shot, which Dorus De Vries sends behind for a corner.
James McCarthy robs Stephen Hunt in midfield and runs at the Wolves defence, who panic. The young midfielder lays the ball off to Franco Di Santo, whose mis-hit comes off the legs of Hunt and beats Dorus De Vries all ends up. Wigan 1, Wolves 1.
WIGAN REPLY IMMEDIATELY!
Wolves take the lead when the fans least expected it. Matt Jarvis, who is known to be a danger on the left flank, cuts inside and curls a shot past Ali Al Habsi with his right boot. Great goal. Wigan 0, Wolves 1.
WOLVES TAKE THE LEAD!!!!
Every Wigan fan is on their feet, cheering their team fan on for their eighth season in the Premier League.
Wigan, who have been in such good form of late, have started the game as the brighter side and are trying to force an early goal. The Wolves defence are holding firm, however.
The crowd is in great voice at the DW - the home fans are in party mood having secured their Premier League status for one more year, whilst the Wolves fans want to leave something to remember them by.
Maynor Figueroa, who was voted the Players Player of the Year at Wigan, has started brightly and is looking to cause some problems down the left hand side.
Wigan, in their new kit, start the game from right to left.
Terry Connor is taking charge of his final Wolves game today, and the visiting crowd are in good voice to support their manager.
Northumberland referee Michael Oliver is taking charge of this final day game. His record this season is better than some of his counterparts, having shown 83 yellow cards and six reds in his 29 games. He has taken charge of four games involving these teams this season, two for each side. His two games in charge of Wigan were their 0-0 draw away at Everton in December, and their 1-0 reverse to Bolton in the FA Cup in February. Wolves has faired slightly better when he has been in charge, winning 2-1 at home to Manchester United in February and drawing at home to Fulham in April.
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Wolves came out the victors with a 3-1 win. However, the two teams have met only five times at Wigan, with the Latics winning three and Wolves one, with one draw between the two. Wigan's recent form would suggest they will come out on top in this one, with seven wins and six draws from their last 14 games. Wolves, on the other hand, have only won once in their last 23, and have not won in their last 13 games. Interestingly, Wigan have committed the second most fouls in the league this year, and Wolves the second fewest.
Wolves are bidding farerwell to the Premier League for at least another season, and several of their players could be departing the club in the close-season. However, boss Terry Connor has several injury worries to contend with in his final game as manager. Michael Kightly and Matthew Jarvis, two wingers who have impressed this season, both have groin injuries and could miss out. Christophe Berra has a calf complaint, young midfielder David Davis has a head injury, and Kevin Foley and Sebastien Bassong are struggling with hamstring problems, with the latter leaving the club after his loan spell. Several others, such as Steven Fletcher, Karl Henry and Kevin Doyle are expected to leave the club after this game, but goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey will be staying until at least January having had surgery on a ligament problem.
Chris Kirkland, Steve Gohouri, Hugo Rodallega and Mohamed Diame are all set to leave Wigan at the end of the month when their contracts expire, and could be given the chance to say farewell to the DW Stadium faithful. David Jones is the only fitness doubt for the Latics, having been struggling with a number of niggles, and manager Roberto Martinez may not choose to risk him with their Premier League status secured.
Hello and welcome to this final day clash between Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers. This game is one of goodbyes, with Wigan seeing several key players leave on free transfers, whilst Wolves are leaving the Premier Division, bound for the Championship. Both sets of fans will be hoping to get the best from their teams to end the campaign on a winning note.
