The final whistle goes and Spurs have sealed a win that secures fourth place. It was a solid performance from the Lilywhites, and goals in either half by Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe were enough to see off a Fulham side who struggled to get going all afternoon. Fulham's future is bright under Martin Jol, while Arsenal's 3-2 win at West Brom means that Tottenham's Champions League hopes will hinge on Chelsea's result in the Champions League final in a week's time. On an unforgettable day of Premier League action it finished at White Hart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur 2, Fulham 0.
Gareth Bale charges forward and looks to slip Emmanuel Adebayor clean through, but last-man Aaron Hughes is alive to it and cuts the pass out expertly.
They've been all over Fulham for most of the afternoon, but Spurs are struggling to keep the Cottagers out as the game ticks towards added time.
Moussa Dembele has shown glimpses of his class all afternoon, and a stunning long-range effort forces Brad Friedel into a smart save to tip the ball over the bar.
Fulham are doing themselves proud with a late rally, with Damien Duff the stand-out threat drifting in from the right. The Irishman's final ball causes panic in the Spurs defence once again, with William Gallas and Brad Friedel relieved to see the ball fizz away for a goal-kick.
It's a comfortable stroll for Tottenham now, with Aaron Lennon continuing to cause all sorts of problems on the break and Sandro running things in the centre of the park. The fans are struggling to watch matters on the pitch and keep an eye on events at the Hawthorns, where Arsenal are clinging on to a narrow 3-2 lead.
Younes Kaboul is the latest Spurs player to be forced off with a knock, so on comes youngster Adam Smith. It's a big moment for the young full-back, and a fittingly casual substitution for a game that's drifting towards a Spurs win.
With Spurs cruising and looking in no trouble at all in this game, the atmosphere at the Lane is becoming a little strange. The fans are hoping for goals at the Hawthorns and astounded by updates at the Etihad, and the players are doing well to keep their concentration on a unique afternoon.
What an unbelievable story at the Etihad! Down to ten men following the dismissal of Joey Barton, QPR looked set for a torrid time, but Rangers have gone 2-1 up thanks to a Jamie Mackie stunner to make huge changes at both ends of the table. Astonishing!
Pajtim Kasami replaces Danny Murphy for Fulham, with the former Spurs midfielder receiving a warm reception from both sets of fans.
It was Aaron Lennon who did the damage to Fulham once again, turning the defence inside out and seeing his shot deflected across the box straight into the path of Jermain Defoe. The striker didn't have long to adjust, but did superbly to take the shot early and leave the keeper with no chance. 2-0!
He's only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes, but Jermain Defoe has scored arguably his most important goal of the season to make it 2-0 to Spurs.
Jermain Defoe is on for Tottenham, replacing Rafael Van der Vaart as Harry Redknapp goes in search of a crucial second goal.
There have been a couple of massive goals in the Premier League. Arsenal are 3-2 up against West Brom, meaning Spurs are missing out on third as things stands. However, that has been overshadowed by a goal at the Etihad... with QPR equalising! United are winning the league and Bolton are going down if things stay the same. What drama!
Emmanuel Adebayor is clean through, only to see Mark Schwarzer deny him with a smart save. However, the flag was up to spare the striker's blushes.
Aaron Lennon weaves his magic again down the flank and picks out Sandro right in the centre of the box. Unmarked and with time, the Brazilian really should have done better than head straight at the keeper.
Spurs are going to have to make a change. Kyle Walker hobbled off at the break and it hasn't cleared up, so on comes Ryan Nelsen to replace the right-back.
The game is back underway at the Lane and Spurs immediately start where they left off. Danny Murphy is booked for a foul on the edge of the box, and only a solid header behind prevents Luka Modric's dinked ball in from finding a white shirt at the back stick.
It's been a fascinating first half in the Premier League, with twists and turns on all fronts. Wayne Rooney's goal for United at Sunderland put them temporarily ahead in the race for the title, only for Pablo Zabaleta to poke home to give City a narrow lead going into the break against QPR. With Bolton pulling their game back to 1-1 against Stoke it means that QPR are going down as things stand in the relegation scrap. Newcastle are two down at Everton so struggling to stay in touch with the north London teams in the race for Champions League qualification, with Spurs 1-0 up but Arsenal back to 2-2 against West Brom and a goal off reclaiming their automatic place. It's still all to play for - what a day!
Emmanuel Adebayor's early goal has put Spurs in control of this game and they've dominated from that moment on. Struggling to get control in midfield, Fulham have still managed to carve out a couple of decent chances, with John Arne Riise and Moussa Dembele both forcing Brad Friedel into smart saves. This is far from over and it all comes down to the next 45 minutes.
Slightly less involved today due to his role at full-back, Gareth Bale finally gets the chance to show off his skills on the break, and very nearly bags a second for Spurs. Short of options, he opts to shoot on the run and forces Mark Schwarzer to parry the swerving ball, and teed up for a second effort he fires just over. That should be the last action of the half.
The ball is worked from left to right and Kyle Walker opts to shoot from distance, sending his shot rising over the bar. There was little on for the full-back, and with Fulham back in defensive shape it was understandable to take on the long-range effort.
Brad Friedel produces an even better save to deny Moussa Dembele as Fulham finally spark into life. Tricky footwork by Dembele saw him work some space on the edge of the box, and only the fingertips of the keeper prevented the shot from nestling in the bottom corner. William Gallas was alive to the loose ball to deny Pavel Pogrebnyak a tap-in on the follow-up and Tottenham hold on to their slender advantage.
John Arne Riise produces the best moment of the game for Fulham as he cuts inside from full-back and forces Brad Friedel into a great save, which is followed up by a defensive scramble to clear the danger. Wake-up call for Spurs!
Aaron Lennon is running riot down the right, and the winger picks out Emmanuel Adebayor in the box with a decent flick inside. The striker looks to have missed his chance, but instead tees up Rafael Van der Vaart to shoot on the edge of the box. With Mark Schwarzer scrambling, the visiting stopper is relieved to see the ball slice just an inch or two wide of his right post.
With Jake Livermore holding it's allowing Sandro the freedom to be destructive off the ball and dynamic on it. Rampaging forward time and again when Spurs are in possession, the Brazilian's attacking work has been eclipsed by a string of powerful challenges that ensure Fulham continue to see little of the ball in the right areas of the pitch.
With Manchester United winning and Man City just drawing, the title is staying at Old Trafford as things stand. Bolton are trailing at Stoke so will be the third team to go down if results stay the same, while Newcastle at 2-0 down and Arsenal at 2-2 against West Brom would see Tottenham in third and the Magpies missing out. However, it's all on a knife-edge with plenty of time left for it all to change. What a day!
Emmanuel Adebayor bursts forward as Spurs counter, and only a cynical block by Brede Hangeland can halt the striker's progress. The referee spots the foul and shows the defender a yellow card for his efforts.
Fulham have finally managed to get hold of the ball... and they're not going to let it go without a fight! It's taken the sting out of Spurs slightly and managed to give the home fans something to think about after a perfect opening 20 minutes.
The home side have such a dominance of numbers in midfield that Fulham can't get a sniff. With Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart drifting centrally to join the two in there, it's allowing Gareth Bale to get forward and act almost as an out-and-out winger rather than a full-back.
The Spurs fans are going crazy as news filters through that it's now West Brom 2 - 1 Arsenal. Meanwhile at the other end of the table it's less good news for Bolton as they trail at Stoke and will go down as it stands.
It's still total dominance from Spurs, and only a perfectly timed tackle by Brede Hangeland ends another weaving Aaron Lennon run on the end of the box.
The huge roar from the Spurs fans will tell you what's happened - West Brom have equalised against Arsenal, meaning that as it stands the positions will be reversed in the table.
More wonderful link-up play in the Spurs midfield almost sees Bale set up with an open goal, only for Mark Schwarzer to react smartly and deny the Welsh flier.
Martin Jol is not a happy man down in the visiting dugout as his team continue to struggle to get a foothold. Luka Modric wins the first corner of the game for Spurs, and although it comes to nothing the pressure continues to build on the Cottagers.
The news filters through that Arsenal have taken the lead at the Hawthorns, meaning that it's as you were in the race for third. Meanwhile, out on the pitch at the Lane it's still all Tottenham, with Lennon and Bale causing plenty of problems out wide.
Fulham have barely touched the ball, such has been the pace of Tottenham's start to this game. It was Rafael Van der Vaart who picked out the key pass, and Emmanuel Adebayor always looked comfortable as he slotted it past Mark Schwarzer. Over to you, Arsenal!
Emmanuel Adebayor opens the scoring and it's a dream start for Spurs!
White Hart Lane is rocking as the game gets underway.
The absence of Tottenham's two left-backs means that Jake Livermore comes in, with Gareth Bale expected to switch to full-back. Both Scott Parker and Ledley King failed late fitness tests. Fulham are without Clint Dempsey due to injury, so Kerim Frei takes his place.
Fulham have been one of the best teams in the Premier League to watch this season as Martin Jol begins to work his magic at the club. The big Dutchman's brand of football saw him become a favourite of the fans at the Lane, but his poorly handled dismissal will give Jol all the motivation he needs to ruin Tottenham's big day. Four years ago it was Jol who had Champions League qualification almost in his grasp as Spurs manager, only for a dodgy lasagne to be blamed for a bout of illness that led to defeat at West Ham. If today is anything like as dramatic as that then we're in for a thrilling afternoon!
Spurs' miserable run of form in the spring has seen them waste an opportunity to ease to a comfortable third-place finish. Going into the final day the Lilywhites trail Arsenal by a point (with the Gunners playing at West Brom) and are also ahead of Newcastle by just one point. With third place the only position to guarantee Champions League football next season, Tottenham will be looking to win and hope that Arsenal slip up at the Hawthorns. Anything other than a victory and Harry Redknapp's side could fall as low as fifth.
The Premier League comes to a dramatic close this afternoon, with crucial matches being played out all across the country. For Tottenham, Champions League football is the matter at stake, and a win today would seal a top four finish and a chance of playing in Europe's premier competition next season. The campaign is effectively over for mid-table Fulham, but the Cottagers are in form and playing some great football under Martin Jol so expect a decent game.
