Start Half

It was a typical end-of-season game at Stamford Bridge. What was a training exercise for Chelsea in the first half finished with the Blues 2-0 up at the break, after appalling defending from Blackburn Rovers helped gift-wrap goals for John Terry and Raul Meireles. The second half was similar but somehow Chelsea didn't put away any of their umpteen chances, and went to sleep at a corner just before the hour mark to allow Rovers a consolation goal. More misery for the visitors then with a performance that epitomised their season, while Chelsea can roll on to next weekend's Champions League final with confidence.
Chelsea 2 Blackburn Rovers 1 is the final score.
Ruben Rochina skies a shot high and wide in the last few seconds of injury time.
Daniel Sturridge misses with a free header from four yards out! It was almost like he was trying to chest the ball into the net following a well-worked Chelsea corner.
Marcus Olsson crashes a disappointing free kick straight into the wall.
Ryan Bertrand makes minimal contact with Martin Olsson near the edge of the area and is harshly booked. Three minutes of injury time have been added on.
Daniel Sturridge fires wide from just inside the box.
Drogba shows tremendous agility for a 34-year-old built like an ox by attempting a scissor kick. It's meat and drink for Jake Kean, however.
Didier Drogba collects the ball from Daniel Sturridge and moves it on to Fernando Torres, who fails to do the right thing and take a shot on first-time. Instead he tries to shift the ball onto his right foot, giving Scott Dann the time to move in and clear.
Ryan Bertrand continues to enjoy his more advanced position upfield than usual, nearly receiving a Fernando Torres pass in a sweeping Chelsea attack that would have set him up for a golden opportunity.
Fluent Chelsea passing releases Daniel Sturridge down the right. He drills in a low cross for Ryan Bertrand, who is inches away from getting what may well have been a goal-scoring touch on the ball.
David Goodwillie is on for Aiyegbeni Yakubu. That was the Yak's last action in a Blackburn Rovers shirt, surely?
A Raul Meireles corner is flicked on to Daniel Sturridge, who skews wide with a volley on his left peg.
Didier Drogba gets himself into a promising position in the box but gets the ball stuck under his feet.
Steve Kean swaps Morten Gamst Pedersen for Radosav Petrovic.
Fernando Torres comes on for Sam Hutchinson, who hasn't looked out of place in his first Premier League start.
Daniel Sturridge doesn't quite execute a left-footed volley, and Jake Kean tips round the post with a save you would expect him to make.
A ball over the top from Ramires is hunted down by Didier Drogba, who terrorises Scott Dann prior to forcing a corner. The subsequent set-piece is eventually scrambled clear.
Didier Drogba tries his luck from far out, but is wide of the mark by a fair distance.
Junior Hoilett darts forward with purpose from near the halfway line and gets the better of Paulo Ferreira. The finish doesn't trouble Ross Turnbull, though.
Back to normal after that surpise goal - Chelsea launch another attack and Ramires rattles the crossbar.
No one picks up Scott Dann from a Josh Morris corner, and AIYEGBENI YAKUBU gets a vital touch to take his team-mate's header past Ross Turnbull.
I've just remembered Aiyegbeni Yakubu is actually playing! He's had no service whatsoever as you might have gathered, adding to his frustration of only netting three times in his last 12 appearances following a free-scoring run.
Romelo Lukaku comes off after putting in an impressive shift, and Didier Drogba gets a rapturous reception as he enters the fray. Could this be his last appearance at Stamford Bridge?
A Junior Hoilett punt from distance is straight at Ross Turnbull. Blackburn Rovers haven't shown any signs of improvement in the second half.
Young Josh Morris has a pop from the edge of the area, but Ross Turnbull saves comfortably.
Romelo Lukaku drags wide of Jake Kean's right-hand post. Sam Hutchinson made a brilliant challenge to win the ball back and set up that chance.
Daniel Sturridge uses his pace to create an opening for himself and clips one narrowly over the bar.
Turns out Blackburn's 20-year-old defender Josh Morris came on for Mauro Formica at the start of the half.
Scott Dann blocks a Romelo Lukaku strike early on in the half.
Chelsea start the second half. Will we see 45 minutes of proper football, or a continuation of a glorified training session?
The first half has served as significant evidence as to why Blackburn Rovers will be playing Championship football next season. Defensively they've been atrocious, and were lucky to get to the half hour mark without conceding. It was John Terry who netted the opening goal with ease just past the 30-minute mark, then Raul Meirles made it 2-0 with an equally casually taken goal four minutes later. This game could well yet turn into a rout if Rovers don't buck their ideas up.
Chelsea reach half time in cruise control, with a 2-0 lead to boot.
Ryan Bertrand has pushed further up the left flank to deputise in Florent Malouda's absence.
Florent Malouda has seemingly picked up and injury and is replaced by Paulo Ferreira. The last 43 minutes may have been Malouda's last at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea literally almost walk the ball into the Blackburn Rovers box before Ramires' finish is deflected wide.
Romelo Lukaku dinks a lovely ball in towards the near post. Jake Kean beats Ramires to it and Blackburn are off the hook.
Not nice to see from Florent Malouda. He takes a blatant dive inside the box and really should be carded.
Goodness me, Blackburn Rovers are all over the place! Raul Meireles drifts forward unchallenged and slots in to double his side's lead on 34 minutes.
The visitors really have been at sixes and sevens defensively. Scott Dann should have dealt with John Terry in the last one of several defensive woes that led to that goal.
Chelsea are allowed acres of space to work the ball in the final third, and JOHN TERRY rounds of the move by heading in from six yards.
Jake Kean keeps out a half-hearted Raul Meireles effort with a routine save.
More lax defending from Blackburn Rovers is seized upon by their opponents. Branislav Ivanovic, Michael Essien and Raul Meireles are allowed to manouvre the ball up towards Romelo Lukaku, who can't quite get his head on the final ball in.
The relaxed end-of-season mentality seemingly hasn't affected Lee Mason, who is blowing for everything at the moment.
Sturridge is tied with Frank Lampard on 11 goals, so has the chance to make himself Chelsea's leading scorer for the season today.
Daniel Sturridge gets on the end of a Romelo Lukaku cross and heads narrowly wide. There's more gaps in this Blackburn Rovers defence than in Ronaldinho's teeth!
Jake Kean comes up trumps again when tested, this time keeping out a Daniel Sturridge effort that was almost deflected in by Gael Givet.
Junior Hoilett is allowed to run across the Chelsea box before drawing a relatively comfortable save from Ross Turnbull.
A needless foul by Raul Meireles gives Blackburn Rovers a free kick 25-yards out. Morten Gamst Pedersen blasts over.
Jake Kean makes an excellent save to deny Romelo Lukaku, after the Blues forward is a little fortunate to be granted an opening.
Romelo Lukaku heads a few yards wide from a Florent Malouda corner.
A long ball forward from near the centre circle by Branislav Ivanovic is latched onto by Daniel Sturridge, who forces a corner. That was pretty route one, but Chelsea have started to move the ball around nicely in the last few minutes.
The game has a very end-of-season feel to it, with neither side really making an impression. And yes, the Blackburn Rovers fans have been chanting 'Kean Out' practically from the off.
Daniel Sturridge has a go up the other end but can't find the target from distance.
Ross Turnbull tips over a decent effort from Jason Lowe.
Chelsea have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches, and have conceded more goals at the Bridge this season (23) than in any other Premier League campaign.
A dangerous cross in from Florent Malouda that had the Blackburn Rovers centre-backs fooled is well dealt with by Jake Kean.
Blackburn Rovers get things underway. Jake Kean makes his debut in goal for Rovers, and this is Sam Hutchinson's first Premier League start for Chelsea after a brief retirement from football 18 months ago.
Bradley Orr, Paul Robinson Paul Robinson and David Dunn are injured, while Mauro Formica also misses out on a starting place. Jake Kean, Adam Henley, Marcus Olsson and Mauro Formica are their replacements. Full line-up: Kean, Henley, Dann, Givet, Martin Olsson, Formica, Lowe, Pedersen, Marcus Olsson, Hoilett, Yakubu. Subs: Usai, Modeste, Grella, Petrovic, Rochina, Goodwillie, Morris.
Roberto Di Matteo makes three to the side that faced Liverpool midweek; out go Paulo Ferreira Paulo Ferreira, Oriol Romeu and Fernando Torres, in come Sam Hutchinson, Raul Meireles and Romelo Lukaku. Full line-up: Turnbull, Hutchinson, Ivanovic, Terry, Bertrand, Meireles, Essien, Malouda, Ramires, Lukaku, Sturridge. Subs: Hilario, Cole, Romeu, Torres, Drogba, Ferreira, Piazon.
Lee Mason's fifth season as a Premier League referee comes to an end, having issued 58 bookings and one red card in 23 games.
Hamstring injuries keep David Luiz and Gary Cahill out of this one, and it is well publicised that they face a race to be fit for the Champions League final. John Obi Mikel is almost certain not to feature as he recovers from a knee injury. Blackburn's Bradley Orr is out following Achilles surgery, but Gael Givet has recovered from a hamstring problem. Paul Robinson and David Dunn are both doubts.
One of the most memorable weeks in the history of Blackburn Rovers? Probably, yet for all the wrong reasons. Dodgy penalty decision that could have altered the course of the game aside, Rovers admittedly went down with a whimper in their decisive game against Wigan on Monday night, despite the narrow score-line. The chicken on the pitch was probably the most entertaining part of the night, in all honesty. Madness was always going to ensue considering the toxic relationship between Venky's/Steve Kean and the fans – not to mention with the old guard of the club's hierarchy. The surprise departure of deputy chief executive Paul Hunt remains a mystery, with no one on the outside truly knowing just how much his now infamous letter had to do with it. What we do know is it will be a big ask for Rovers to return to the top flight in the next couple of years, especially considering a summer fire sale is almost certainly on the cards.
Glancing at certain records, you would think the mood today around Stamford Bridge would be a fair bit darker. Sixth place, where Chelsea will finish today, is their lowest finish in the Premier League for a decade. That same 2001/02 season saw the Blues lose 11 times, a tally they have almost equalled by suffering ten defeats this season for the first time since then. Throw in a 4-1 midweek defeat at Liverpool that was Chelsea's largest losing margin since the Abramovich takeover, and you have a nightmarish picture. We all know that isn't exactly the case, however. Roberto Di Matteo has used his familiarity and popularity within the club to full advantage since coming in as caretaker manager, easing to an FA Cup triumph and even surprising many with a tactical nous that played a significant role in beating one of the greatest footballing sides of all time over two legs. A Champions League final looms next Saturday as a result, and an emphatic win today coupled with Bayern Munich's German Cup final thrashing yesterday at the hands of Borussia Dortmund might in some people's minds give them something of a psychological edge going into the game.
So here we are, the final day of a tumultuous Premier League season. Most eyes will understandably be focusing on several games elsewhere this afternoon where there's everything to play for. Still, with Chelsea less than a week away from one of the biggest games in their history and Blackburn unable to stay out of the news at the moment, there's plenty left to be interested in at Stamford Bridge this afternoon. Team news and full match commentary can be found here from 14:30 BST.
