Talk about a dramatic late winner! The ramifications of that Vennegoor of Hesselink goal cannot be underestimated. Seasons are built on moments like that and right now the Hull fans will be sure their team can survive. What a difference half an hour makes - the home side were losing 1-0 and going nowhere, but a moment of genius from Olofinjana, a moment of madness from Faye and a moment of striking instinct from Vennegoor have turned the game on its head. Phil Brown can cancel his Monday morning appointment at the job centre after all. Full time at a bouncing KC Stadium, Hull 2 Stoke 1.
Boateng replaces Fagan to waste a few seconds.
We're one minute into four added on.
The game of football never ceases to amaze. Astonishing climax at the KC - Bullard again whacks one from range, Sorensen can only parry and JAN VENNEGOOR OF HESSELINK slams the rebound into the net. Delirium ensues and Phil Brown is absolutely mobbed.
Hull are taking the initiative again, but are they going to run out of time? Bullard, who incidentally has done incredibly well to last 90 minutes, hits a hopeful one from range which Sorensen clutches gratefully in his chest.
Talk about a kick in the mommy daddy button... Tuncay, seven minutes after entering the game, is the sacrificial lamb for Stoke as Andy Wilkinson comes on to shore up the defence. The Turk sprints straight to the dressing room, presumably to have a quiet word with Abdoulaye Faye.
For the second time this half Faye clashes with Barmby, and for the second time he receives a yellow card. The defender was late with a sliding challenge, and can have few complaints.
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink replaces the lively Jozy Altidore.
Whelan floats a delectable free kick towards the right of the six yard box where the unmarked Ryan Shawcross rises high to nod against the bar and over. Awful defending, which goes unpunished.
Tuncay is given nine minutes to win the game for Stoke, replacing Ricardo Fuller.
Altidore, with his back to goal on the edge of the box, turns well but can't take on Faye and slices wide of Sorensen's left-hand post.
This is the scrappiest spell of the game by far - neither side wants to give anything away.
Well this one's too tight to pick a winner at the moment. I'm sure Stoke would take a point right now, but would Hull?
Whelan works a short corner which is passed back to him inside the box, but the resulting shot is blocked.
Big big chance for Craig Fagan - a through ball is missed by Sorensen but the striker doesn't get a first-time shot away so Stoke get defenders back for an ensuing melee, and all Hull win is a fruitless corner.
Argy bargy on the sidelines as Faye tries to prevent Barmby taking a quick throw in. Booking for Faye.
Whitehead goes down under a Olofinjana challenge in the box but for the third time this afternoon Mike Dean turns down the appeal. Again, I'd have to agree - that was a 50/50 shoulder challenge.
Whelan is booked for Stoke for a deliberate handball.
What a goal that is - SEYI OLOFINJANA has just pulled something really special out of the bag for Hull. Hunt plays inside from the left and Olofinjana turns past two Stoke players in one movement before curling a 20 yard beauty past a flailing Sorensen. That's his first goal for Hull City, and comes against his former club to boot.
Dave Kitson is on for Stoke, with James Beattie taken off.
Just 31 minutes to go then. Do Hull need two goals to save Phil Brown's job? For all their first half creativity, the home side have been lifeless so far since the break. The crowd have reacted suitably and it's deathly quiet inside the KC right now.
Huth drags back Altidore as the American tries to sprint clear and that's a thoroughly deserved yellow card.
Stoke are inches, nay centimetres away from doubling their lead. Etherington has the beating of Mendy again and hits a low ball across the six-yard line which hits Gardner but luckily bounces just wide of the post.
No spark in this second half Hull performance yet. In fact Stoke are the better side at the moment.
Change for Hull. Nick Barmby is called for, with the clearly unfit Richard Garcia withdrawn.
A Delap throw nearly drops for Shawcross six yards out but Duke is alert to the danger and bundles the ball clear.
Beattie curls a 25 yard free kick towards the top corner, but his radar is a little out of sync and it sails over Matt Duke's bar.
We're back underway again at the KC. Neither side has made a change at the break.
Smash and grab for Stoke who take a tentative lead into the break. Hull have been the better side but, with little finishing prowess to speak of, have wasted all their good chances. Massive half time team talk coming up for Phil Brown.
Dean Whitehead needs a bit of treatment after a clash with Garcia.
Ryan Shawcross is incredibly lucky to avoid a second yellow card of the afternoon. He gets involved in some handbags with Stephen Hunt and pushes the Irishman in the chest. After a lot of huffing and puffing Mike Dean chooses to have a word with both players, but shows no cards.
Wow, that's pretty embarrassing for Seyi Olofinjana in front of the Stoke fans he used to play for every week. The Nigerian, 15 yards out, simply must shoot from 15 yards with only Sorensen ahead of him, but inexplicably passes to his right where there is no Hull player to speak of. Baffling.
We're back to the status quo at the KC - Hull enjoying the lion's share of possession and in the right areas, with Stoke looking to counter.
Garcia is making things work for Hull - he dinks a cross onto the head of Altidore who really should do better unmarked from 12 yards, but can't find the target.
Stoke's confidence is there for all to see. Whelan tries to lob Duke from the halfway line and is only a yard or two short.
That's two in two for Etherington who was Stoke's best player by a distance against Wolves last week, scoring one and making another, and looks to have brought his form to the KC.
Totally against the run of play, Stoke make Hull pay for their profligacy. A regulation long ball from defence finds its way to MATTHEW ETHERINGTON, who homes in on Duke's goal and flays a low shot into the corner.
Good work from Olofinjana in midfield who plays in Hunt down the left flank - his cross reaches Garcia at the back stick but the Aussie nods wide.
Definitely Hull on top in the opening 28 minutes and the home fans are right behind them now. Still no goal to show for their efforts though.
Stoke's brightest moment of the game as Fuller tees up Whitehead for a free shot from 18 yards which is horribly sliced wide.
Mendy takes one for the team, wiping out the gallivanting Etherington as Stoke launch a counter attack and picking up a booking.
Chance of the game so far drops to Richard Garcia as Altidore's clever through ball drops for the rampaging midfielder, but from 12 yards Garcia's clipped shot deflects wide.
Matt Duke's heart jumps into his mouth for a couple of seconds as he smacks a back pass straight against Ricardo Fuller. The ball balloons towards goal, but fortunately for Duke drops over the net.
Altidore finds room between four players outside the Stoke box and hits a low shot across Sorensen's goal from 20 yards. Decent attempt.
Anyone expecting a masterclass of one-touch, free-flowing Brazil-esque football from these sides today roughly has the same amount of football knowledge as Sepp Blatter, but even for Hull and Stoke this has been pretty ugly so far.
In his mind Bernard Mendy is momentarily Hull's version of Cristiano Ronaldo, ambitiously taking the ball and going for goal from fully 40 yards. To be fair it's not too far away, but Sorensen had it covered and that's basically just a waste of possession.
Shawcross goes through the back of Fagan and duly picks up the game's first booking. Fagan was going nowhere - a silly yellow for the Stoke centre back.
Delap throw for Stoke which results in some decent pressure. Fuller strikes one from range and Duke has to make a diving save to his left.
Looks like Jimmy Bullard is keen to make amends for his ten-month absence. The former Fulham midfielder lashes a wicked 30-yard drive which is a whisker away from Thomas Sorensen's right-hand post.
Altidore is uncompromisingly barged aside by Shawcross in the box but again the penalty appeals go unheard by Mike Dean. Another correct call.
The Stoke fans are in fine voice at the KC, comfortably outsinging the nervous home supporters. On the pitch the visitors are on top as well - Beattie nearly gets on the end of a through ball but Matt Duke claims at his feet.
Half a shout for a penalty for Stoke inside 30 seconds as an Etherington cross appears to hit Mendy on the hand. Probably ball to hand though.
And we're up and running as Hull kick us off.
The KC Stadium observes a minute's silence before kick off to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Tony Pulis makes one change from last weekend's 2-2 draw at home to Wolves, with Robert Huth replacing Andy Wilkinson at right back. Tuncay, despite some promising substitute appearances in recent weeks, remains on the bench where he's joined by the recalled Dave Kitson. Full line up: Sorensen; Huth, Faye, Shawcross, Collins; Delap, Whelan, Whitehead, Etherington; Beattie, Fuller. Subs: Simonsen, Wilkinson, Higginbotham, Cort, Lawrence, Tuncay, Kitson.
Jimmy Bullard hands Hull a major boost by starting in midfield as Phil Brown makes five changes from the side which lost 2-0 at Burnley last week. It's Bullard's first start for the club, while Bernard Mendy, Jozy Altidore, Craig Fagan and Richard Garcia all come in, with the latter making his first start of the season. Paul McShane, Kamel Ghilas and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink drop to the bench. Full line up: Duke; Mendy, Zayatte, Gardner, Dawson; Garcia, Olofinjana, Bullard, Hunt; Fagan, Altidore. Subs: Warner, McShane, Kilbane, Boateng, Ghilas, Barmby, Vennegoor of Hesselink.
It's crunch time for Phil Brown and Hull. Join us from 1300 BST to find out if the perma-tanned one can save his job.
It appears Mike Dean is going soft in his old age - the 41-year-old Merseyside ref has only shown one red card in 11 games this term. Last season Dean was one of the country's more card-happy refs, flashing an impressive 12 red cards in 44 matches. After a long trip to Zagreb on Thursday for a Europa League tie, let's hope Dean isn't feeling cranky this afternoon.
Stoke are currently sitting pretty in ninth place and have a chance to reach the giddy heights of seventh with a win this afternoon. They have Robert Huth back from suspension, but midfielder Salif Diao is a doubt with a calf injury. Mamady Sidibe (hamstring) and Amdy Faye (back) won't be involved.
Is there a professional team in England with a worse record in 2009? Hull have won just three games from 29 since the turn of the year – no wonder Brown is facing the chop. Their quest for three points today isn't helped by the probable absence of their record signing Jimmy Bullard (calf) and number one goalkeeper Boaz Myhill (knee). Talisman and top scorer Geovanni (suspended) is definitely out.
An hour and a half, 90 minutes, 5400 seconds – that's all the time Phil Brown has to save his job this afternoon, if the pundits (and probably new Hull chairman Adam Pearson, if he was being honest) would have you believe. I bet Jack Bauer could do it, but can Phil Brown? Let's face if, he couldn't have hand-picked worse opponents to face. Man United, Arsenal etc at home, defeat is expected, but Stoke? They're still classed as a small team in many supporters' eyes, on their day are one of the hardest to beat in the top flight.
